Is anyone here work in the clerical/admin assistant/data entry/general office clerk?

Nocturnal

I really need a job that does not deal with customers. I want to start work as an admin assistant or a general office clerk. Is anyone familiar with these jobs? How are they? Are they stressful? Is anyone here in one of the said positions? Do you like it?

How boring is a data entry job? Does anyone here have one? I want to avoid customers if at all possible as I'm sick and tired of the customers always being right. I understand that its the companies responsibility to make sure the customer is pleased because if they are not, that means less sales which in turn can shut a place down.

Now, I went to a temp agency today and I signed up, got interviewed, took some software program tests for Word and Excel. I did really good and also found out I can type 100WPM with like 2 errors.

Any stories of how boring a data entry or admin job can be?

Really depends on what assignments you get. I know our secretary has a hectic day everyday. She is in charge of all customer communication, scheduling meetings for at least 10 people, as well as general duties.

Data entry is very boring. I type over 110 wpm with 100% accuracy and have never been turned down for a job. 😀 I've even pointed out typos on applications and have been hired on the spot because of that. Thank goodness my job and the company I work for depends on my speed and accuracy or it really would be BORING. It keeps me on my toes.

But then again, I'm not going anywhere because of how fast I type, etc. They want to keep me in the same position because they're too afraid to have somebody else try to do my job. They've gotten comfortable with me.

Anyway, I've strayed from the topic, data entry is boring. Day in and day out same old same old. I'm just glad my job entails me being able to get up and walk around a couple of times an hour. That's nice! 🙂

And no, I'm not a secretary.

I am the Data Entry Assistant Manager for Marriott Vacation Club call center in Santa Ana, CA. I started out in data entry here about 3 yrs ago and have moved into a few different positions since then. It's a pretty chill job and not having to deal with customers is pretty nice. I always recommend to people that they get data entry jobs as opposed to getting some $8 hr grocery clerk job. My data entry associates make about $11 hr after bonus and their job is not at all stressful. Plus with a company like Marriott, if you are motivated, the sky is the limit. I should be getting a promotion within the next couple of months which should put me in the $50K range without a degree...not bad.
