i think i might have ADD. because of the fact that all 4 years of my college i never paid attention in class. i get really easily distracted. and i make mediocre grades. i never realized i might have it until i told my sister. and she said i could have it. does it sound like i do?

You might. Try seeing a doc.

Also, does anything hold your attention for long?

I think ADD is a copout. Some people are hyper and some people arent. You think that they made exceptions for kids with ADD back in the 50's? I was diagnosed with it when I was younger and they tried to give me medicine and stuff. I threw that sh!t away and dealt with it.

ADD might be BS in your opinion but unfortunately there are people who have studied it for years. As a child I was told I had a very mild case of ADD and occasionally it stood out. It doesn't affect intelligence in any way as I've always tested in the 98+ percentile. You can't always concentrate 100% on certain things. On the other hand, if it is something interesting to me I pay more attention to it than nearly anyone and pick up on things extremely quickly.

It's a very real deficiency and you should see a doctor if you think you have a problem with attention span.

Can't agree with you less on this one.. Not to condone it, but I'll admit to having smoked a lot and I have a 4.0 GPA, as well as my friends who do as well all have 3.5 or better.

its the ones who go out to the bars and drink all night that have the 1.0's and 1.5's

I agree.. I think its a copout as well. a lot of rich kids I know have "ADD". its like rich kids disease or something. I think its just spoiled kids disease, they are so spoiled they can't keep their interest on something for more than 5 minutes.

sure, there may be some actual cases where someone has difficulty concentrating due to checmical imbalances or something, but mostly its just spoiled laziness in my opinion.

My wife is a teacher in high school and she would throw that nonsense out all the time.."It's sad because I know they can do better, but they have ADD." NO!NO!NO! "They could do better, but they don't because they're lazy, and honey it's people like you that allow them to continue going through their life living excuses."

Needless to say, I was cut off for a few days. But, she came around and agreed with me that teachers and most people are using it as an excuse rather than focusing on a solution.

However, after a little bit of life retrospect over the past few weeks, I've realized I'm in the same boat as whoever started this post (And honestly, I don't remember who started it. ha!) So, I've got a doctor's appt. this week to discuss just that...But, I'll be damned if I tell my wife about it!!

Doctors label a kid with ADD to make the parents feel better. Some kids may actually have an attention disorder, many are just hyperactive, disrespectful little punks. If a doctor tells the parents that the kid has ADD, it makes the parent feel better because it tells them that it's something that isn't the cause of bad parenting.

Anywhoo - to answer your question. You might have some form of attention disorder. Work on these things to help you -

In class -
1) If you can, take classes you enjoy.

2) Take notes and keep your mind on the class.

Out of class -
1) In the morning make a list of all things that are to be done. Check them off once they are complete.

2) Figure out what method of studying works best for you. Do you learn best by voice? If so, tape record your lectures and play them back once you get back to the dorms.

Do you learn kinetically (movement)? If so, take notes during class and then rewrite them afterwards for your studying.

Are you a visual learner? If so, make flash cards and have your roomate quiz you on them. Also, highlighting helps as well.

Biggest thing is to figure out what works best for you and keeps you on task. To me, drugs (riddlin) should be the absolute last resort.
