Is anyone here able to use Windows Update?

Yes, I know all about the MSBlaster worm. All of my systems are already patched. I imagine millions of people are trying to run Windows Update at once trying to get the patch. I can't get any of my computers to connect to Windows Update. Is this because the server is being deluged by people trying to get the patch or has the denial of service attack already begun? It looks like either way the maker of the worm has acheived his goal...

I used it to check my GF's laptop last night, and it was the slowest I've ever seen it.

So yeah, they're getting hammered.

I'm getting through just fine - it just is about 1/3rd the normal speed. I had to install WinXP today on a formatted computer. I was worried about the worm, but no problem so far.

I used it last night to fix my RPC vulnerability. I scanned and didn't have the Blaster worm, but for some reason svchost.exe would crash after I was on the internet for a while. It wouldn't restart my computer, it would just make the OS kinda glitchy. For example, I couldn't drag/drop or cut and paste. Weird.

Anyway, it worked fine last night. The patch fixed the problem by the way.

Is it enough to just install the patch from Microsoft or do you actually have to run a utility (such as the one from Symantec) to remove the worm from your computer?

Heh...it's sorta biting MSFT in the ass. They don't make it easy to just download the fixes and save them on a network drive for propagation to multiple PCs. I wonder if they're tracking Product IDs like an anal-retentive manager from hell?
