Is anyone else disappointed with Anandtech's "hardware" reviews?

We haven't gotten ANYTHING lately. No motherboard reviews, no CPU reviews, no heatsink reviews, nothing. We get an article or two when a new technology emerges, then we're stuck with links to other sites' reviews of hardware. What happened?

What are you talking about? lol..

It doesen't have anything to do with Anand, it's the industry. He's giving us plenty to read about. There seems to be a lot of new technology on the horizon.. But there isn't a new CPU, motherboard or video card every couple of weeks anymore.. lol

I'm not complaining. While I've noticed there aren't so many reviews of individual boards, the forums work just fine for recommendations. I like anand because he can explain hardware to a history major; the difference between abit's and asus's latest offerings doesn't matter much to me, nor does a 66 mhz jump in cpu speed.

for example. say that you want to build a new p4-478 system. liek i'm doing. wouldn't it be nice to see what motherboards are available, how they stack up against each other, and what features they have? or which pc2700 performs the best? or what aftermarket heatsinks are available, and how well they perform?

Uh.. then you would go here..

As for which PC2700 performs the best.. What do you mean? PC2700 is PC2700. Do you mean how well it overclocks?

As for heatsink reviews.. Yeah, I guess we could use a new one..

I can understand where you're coming from. It would be nice if anandtech could absorb storagereview.com (drives) and 3dss.com (speakers) and other hardware-specific sites that could use a boost. (I don't mean takeover, but rather form partnerships; sort of like a hardware portal site.) At GH, there are simply too many people who post everyday about which mobo is best to go with which RAM or how various videocards compare. Perhaps, anandtech needs more comparison reviews or even an "epinions-like" hardware database of user reviews and recommendations.

Hmmm. NO Asus P4B266, no EPOX 4BDA, no Abit, no Gigabyte... The P4B266 is the board of choice for P4s. Funny how it's not on that list. Or how that list is TWO months old. And we all know that no new products have come out during the last two months.

You just showed a perfect example of what I was referring to. We get a preview when the new technology comes out, but no follow-up.

I can agree to that too, but remember, Anand is a college student with a hectic schedule. I'm not sure if NC State is on Spring Break this week. If not, their taking mid-terms. He's doing a sh!t-load more than I can do as a college student, so I applaud his efforts.

I'm sure they're working on it new reviews all time.. shrug.. lol.. go find some reviews on another site, then.. I usually read all the reviews I can get my hands on. Anand will review all those boards eventually.

We are ALL busy working as hard as we can...not only with the website and reviews and other articles, but we have to get on with our own lives too.

That article is about the VIA P4 motherboards! Those boards are pieces of crap compared to the other boards on the market; very few people would take on the burdens and problems of owning a Via motherboard when they don't have to - Intel motherboards are much more stable, especially when running with Intel chips. Also, at Anand there is currently no review/roundup of the good socket 478 Intel motherboards (P4B266, etc). I agree, a PC2400/2700 roundup/comparaison would be helpful, as well as heatsink reviews, etc etc.

I like how people are quick to flame the poster (especially in off topic).

It seems that Anandtech is indeed backed up right now; it IS disappointing because the quality of all the Articles are top-notch, and they obviously take a long time to write (the number of tests done is mind boggling). Most articles are very informative and usually right on-the-money!

Good question TuffGuy, I'm asking the same!

you know wha twould be really neat? a spot on the main web page that says what hardware, equipment etc is in the lab beingw orked on...

yah yah yah there are NDA's here and there, but it would sure be neat to see what htey arew orking on, an ETA on completion isnt really neccessary, its just nice to iknow that somthing cool that we have been waiting for is in teh works and a review ill be done eventually...

anand must get a ton of stuff in the mail every week from vendors, how much does he actually get a chance to look at?

State's spring break is next week, so this week has been crunch time for lots of profs. I know it has been awhile, but if you take into consideration how long it takes to write those articles, and at that caliber, plus going to school, that may be understandable.

my $0.02

I like the articles, the only thing I find missing is the spunk, they just seem soo systematic. Lack this sloppy fun feeling😛

There just isn't anything interesting happening right now. Sure, we get the occasional new CPU, but those can be reviewed with one sentence: "The new X.X GHz CPU is exactly the same as the earlier X.Y GHz CPU, just slightly faster" *yawn*. I for one find it funny when some websites do multipage reviews of (for example) Athlon XP 1700+, when all you need to do is to say "It's exactly the same as 1600+ XP, just a bit faster".

There ARE some cool tech in the horizon. Like new video-cards (and not just from NVIDIA/Ati!), new CPU's (Hammertime!), Serial-ATA, DDR-II...

Hmm, i'm just taking a guess, but that would be additional bandwidth to support? wouldn't it. My question is if subscription pricing was raised so other sites could be absorbed, how many here wouldn't mind paying extra as a subscriber??? Also, we would need more subscribers. 🙂

being in college, you should hope there are no articles . that means anand is having a life. good for him. If i had created this site , itd probably be about the same. plus does anyone really care that much about exactly which board is minisculy faster now? i mean anand did a review on say the gf4 chipset. we dont need a review of every gf4 card, i mean who cares they are all almost the same just likethe boards.

you guys fail to realize that anand is NOT the only one that does reviews for this site. we don't even get ONE hardware review per week. yet there's enough time to put up FOUR updates from IDF. look at the way the "OLD" anandtech used to be. look at the articles and the reviews that we USED to get. what happened?

[heavy on the sarcasm] You know what would be better? If Anand made his main page a paysite so he could pay himself and the other reviewers much more to do the reviews in a more timely manner... that's it. Oh and another thing... Maybe he could make the forums completely members only. Yeah. Oh.. Hey Anand, why don't you and your crew that started this site quit life and school to make everyone happy, charge membership fees to your page and offer a 24X7 webcam of you so we can verify you are trully working and not enjoying life. Hey!!! Another idea! I saw you on TV.... Women will dig it if you go nude while you work. Webcam, Nudit, members only... DUDE!!! YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE SO MUCH MORE MONEY!!! [/heavy on the sarcasm]

No matter what anyone says, the site is free to use. You are getting FAR MORE than you are paying for and if you want to go elsewhere... Don't let the door hit ya on your way out.

What reviews would you like to get?

1. MoBo-reviews: "this MoBo has 0.2% performance-advantage when compared to brand X!"
2. Video-card reviews: "Leadtek GF4 is 1% faster than Gainward GF4"
3. CPU reviews: "This CPU is exactly the same as the previous performance-leader, it's just tiny bit faster"

no offense guys, but i've been here A LOT longer than you have. i know what the old site used to be like, and i miss the reviews that we used to get. it's one of the reasons why i started coming over here.

now, unless you have something constructive to say, stfu.

My biggest gripe, and I know that Anand probably doesn't have any control over it, is when he doesn a review of a product, and have flashing ads all around the article promoting the same product. ALMOST make me think that the company put some restrictions on the outcome of the review/article.
