Is anyone actually waiting for D&DO to come out?

I tried out the preview to Dungeons & Dragons Online and found it very lacking. Regardless of how the game is I was surprised at how little it is even mentioned outside of one or two forums that cover games.

Is anyone actually looking forward to this game?


PS: I wasn't, just wanted to see how bad Turbine could F up a known title.

Definitely staying away from DDO here. I played the beta off and on for 4 months and really couldn't get into it.

I played it in beta, the game pretty much sucks and isn't really worth much discussion. There will be a small niche of hardcore d&d enthusiests who play it because it's got hte d&d name but that's about it.

Yeah, I remember a post by a dev of the long long overdue Darkfall Online posting some comments about WoW and I'm thinking, WTF, your game was supposed to be open beta in 2004 and you're playing EQ Redux with your spare time?

But, ya, next year Turbine graces us with a LOTR MMO that will also be years behind conceptually and boring as raking sand. :thumbsup:

FWIW, AC was a good game, but, in all fairness that was a Microsoft/Turbine venture.....as soon as Turbine struck off on their own they've put out nothing but games that we can only hope decades from now we realize were really sick jokes or something.

And Turbine seems to get all the big names. The fact that MS dumped them should have given some of the license holders a clue.

I was also in the beta. It was OK I guess, like others I'm thinking this will be for HardCore D&D fans.

The GFX are nice, nothing outstanding but not the worst I've seen. Game play was VERY slow but I've sat in on a few games and a friends house (the real D&D) and the game is really more about role playing and story than killing.

Turbine is doing an exceptional job trying to keep this true to the D&D universe and I don't think it is fair to knock them for it. You may not enjoy the game either because you don't understand it or don't like the style, but that doesn't mean they've failed at what they set out to accomplish. I never played much D&D, but after getting to level 2 in the preview and reading more about the beta to understand why certain things were difficult for me / etc, I gained a lot of appreciation for what the game is about.

The graphics scale very well, if you were playing on medium you should compare it to high and very high.

Turbine had a deal with MS?

Microsoft was the "publisher" for Asheron's Call 1, but they definitely had a hand in the game's development at least creatively.

For the first few years it was supposed to have been a pretty great game....mostly because of the skill required in PvP and monthly content updates.
