Is anyone able to play DOD under XP?

Bastard keeps freezing (sound repeats) and drop back to the desktop. Can't figure it out and I'm not the only one have problems. Can play 30 minutes and then get it, or play 30 seconds and get it. Completely unpredictable. Tried using low quality sounds and still happens. Have the latest drivers and everything. Anyone else have this problem or know it exists?

I see you've posted on the DoD messageboards, so I'm guessing you've already had a poke around there. Do a search for "CTD" in the support forum, there's quite a few that come up, maybe one of them has the answer.
I'm just skimming through them, but I don't see any yet. Sounds like a TON of people have the repeating sound/crash to desktop problems though. Wierd.

Howdy Red, thanks. I've looked through a lot of threads but will do a search for CTD. Yeah I'm certainly not the only one. Lots of...dinks over at those forums and the people here are a lot cooler so thought I would give it a shot.

I'm hoping 1.0.1.9 fixes XP issues (which I hope this is). It happens constantly and is EXTREMELY frustrating.

BrunoPuntzJones,

I notice in your rig profile(Main computer) you`ve your CPU overclocked so my first question is does this problem also happen at default CPU speeds?

works fine for me, however there is a bug with Half Life and ATI vid cards that causes it to crash to the desktop after like 30 seconds. Sierra has a patch for it that fixes it right up.

Tried changing Audio to low quality
Tried different video modes and resolutions (including setting my desktop and game to the same res and color depth).
Added the heapsize command
Use Cmedia onboard sound so it's not an SB Live issue

Using a GF3 Ti200 so no ATI problems

Rig and card are both overclocked but 100% stable in EVERYTHING else. I didn't see how a 3.5 year old game could be the culprit (other than not being up to date with XP compatibility which is what I'm leaning towards).

Hopefully the .9 patch will help with this also.

I'll give the rig a step back to "normal" fsb, ram settings, vid core/mem settings and see what happens.

The sound repeats and the game freezes, then dumps me back to the desktop and says "would you like to send a report". I click to not send and have looked through the "details" but it doesn't give a file that's giving it a problem or anything I can understand. Mostly hex stuff. 🙁
