I'm a happy drunk. I drink about 4-5 times a week... take off monday and wednesday since i have class the next morning. I average about 2 30 packs a week. 1 on weekends 1 during the week. You only live once, why not live it to the fullest. [q/]
Depends on one's definition of fullest.

A dependancy on a substance to feel happy = red flag to me.

But thats just from reading what you wrote, obviously not the whole picture.

Well, the best words that anyone said on this subject is... DONT GO DOWN THAT ROAD!

First off, you mentioned that you had a problem with depression, then stated that-after nothing happened with prescriptions-that you went back to moderate drinking. Well, ALCOHOL is a depressent. Sure you may feel happy now, or in the morning, but look at the big picture.... years down the road (IF you follow this road) the situation will change... your tolerance level for alcohol will increase, and all of a sudden those 5-6 drinks turn into 12!! AND it is amazing that you awake 'refreshened' after drinking because drinking to any moderate extreme over time RUINS your sleep pattern. Over a period of time after regular drinking you just dont dream anymore!

I consider myself a 'functional alcoholic'. I drink about 12 drinkds a day, but I started with the same 5-6 drinks like you. I can still keep a full time job, never be late, never call in sick, pass all drug tests, etc. But, in looking back in my life, I wish I never started drinking! In the long run it is going to take some toll in your life.

The most common prescription for depression is exercise and eating the right foods. You should try those, before alcohol. Take it from me!!

I am another one who is walking down the same road and regret it all now. Its never too late to get help. I am finally learning this leason after 15 years of heavy drinking.

Seek professional help...not asking a bunch of geeks at a computer forum!!

This post blows my mind

He never said he was bonging beers and driving
Liver gets destroyed from many things
Won't make him gain any more weight than a value meal at mcdonalds

Edit... How can he afford it? 5 drinks a day works out to less than $20 a week. Less than filling up his gas tank a week. *that is going off $15 for a 30 pack bud light or similar

You need a kegerator. We end up paying ~$40 for a 1/2 barrel. $40 for ~160 beers makes the equation even nicer, and there's nothing like a freshly poured beer from your own tap. :)

Conjur is right - it is exceedingly unhealthy for your body to consume this amount of alcohol daily. Mentally the repercussions are even worse. There are better ways to deal with depression than alcohol.

It's all about the chemical inbalance, everyone is not perfect, drink away - just don't drive.

Once an addict, always an addict. That's the way it goes. You never stop being an Alchoholic, you just don't drink anymore.

5 per day is excessive. our bodies get damaged by many different things, so lets harm it more because whats a little more damage! feel free to paypal me that measly 100$ per month from beer... but you only live once, why drink bad beer anyways.

I don't the statistics on this, but if personal experience is worth anything, I haven't had hangovers since college (less frequent, binge type drinking). Maybe your body can get acclimated to ingesting all the toxins? The worst that can happen is I wake up and I'm still tipsy (sometimes that's pretty annoying).

that happened to me the other day. I was drinking on a mon. night, but that was b/c I had a test that day, so it wasn't so bad. I drank a pint (whiskey) in about 30 min. on an empty stomach.

but although I was very drunk, I didn't have a hangover, I just woke up still tipsy, I thought it was funny

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with this study, at least on the fat issue. When I was binge drinking (liquor) in college (first two years) I went from 160lbs (5'10") to 145lbs. The reason is simply that excess of that order of magnitude completely destroys your stomach, and appropriately your appetite as well.

I'm one - I drink 3-4 bottles of beer per day. Any more than that would be a problem for me though.

How much do you have to drink to be an alcoholic? 5 a day? 4 a day? 3 a day? 2 a day? What about 1 day? :)

my dad drink 5-6 drinks a day. He is not an alcohol and has not gained weight. Infact he has lost weight since he switch to the Akins diet and to light beer.

I suggest you try exercising. A lot of times this can lead to depression, of course I dont know your full story but I thought i might suggest this since I have had experience with this topic before.
