so far every thing is working great .

6600GT AGP isn't budget yet. The prices are pretty much on par with the 6800NU which beats it in performance by a pretty decent margain. For budget I'd hit either the 6800NU or the 9800Pro (256-bit, 128MB).

Judging from the specs of the system I think he'd be much happier with the faster 6800.

Just check out the reviews. The 6600GT AGP simply rocks the 5900XT, and can actually beat the 5950 Ultra, too. Also, the 5900XT has a problem running DX9 with Half Life 2, so it gets about a 60% penalty for running DX9 on that engine, and it can't render water and some other things correctly. This is a pretty big problem, since there will likely be boatloads of games using the HL2 engine. If you can, get the BFG 6600GT. Unlike other companies, BFG doesn't downclock their AGP 6600GT's memory; instead, they overclock the whole card, running at 525/1050 versus 500/900 stock for the AGP. Prices on the AGP 6600GT are coming down, likely dipping below $200 within a week or 2. Go with the 6600GT; I'm putting one in my nforce4 mobo (PCIe of course), because pretty much everyone reviewing either version of card just can't seem to stop talking about how great performance is, and what a great value the card has.

As far as I know, the cards are not available yet and will still be quiet hard to get when they become available. If you can get one for less than $230 you should buy it but if you can't afford one look for 9800 Pro for around $190 (128 MB RAM, 256-Bit memory interface, not the 128-Bit versions!!!).

just scored one from tiger direct for 229.00 with no rebates xfx cant wait to see the graphics on this baby . thank s guys

Prices on the 6600GT AGP are substantially lower than the 6800NU. Here is a pretty good one:

Yes, it's higher than MSRP due to being brand spanking new, and the prices will drop by like $30-40 over the next week or 2, but even now it's about $40-50 cheaper than the 6800NU, performs pretty similarly, overclocks better, and has a working Video Processor (unlike the NV40's, which is only partly functional).

I'd recommend a 6800NU if you can find one for under $250, but seeing as how that's pretty rare unless bestbuy or Compusa has a special sale, I'd still say your best bet is with the 6600GT.

thanks gobucks . now im waiting for the new world craft to come . this will be a good xmas surprize at my house this year santa
