i am planning to build a P4 1.6a system (prolly gonna overclock it a bit) with Gigabyte-GA-8IXP mobo.

i was wondering if 300w PSU will be enough to handle it ?
will be putting a dvd-rom drive, cd-rw drive and 1 hard drive for now.

i am getting the case for $85 shipped w/ 300w psu. anyone knows a better deal around somewhere ?

Yeah, the PSU that you'll get will be one of the pp303x probably, which is what I got with my Antec SX830case. It's running my P4 1.6A, along with 2 HDDs, DVD, CDrom, CDrw, Geforce3, SB X-Gamer, Nic, and 4 Sunon 80mm case fans. My PSU was enough when I had 4 slow Antec case fans, but it struggles with the 4 Sunons(12V rail drops down to 10.9~11.2). I've been waiting for Newegg to get stock of Antec's new TruePower PSUs, I'm gonna grab either the True480 or the True550. The 550 is only about $15 more than the 480, so I'll probably get the 550 ($105)

The only place I've found them available is Provantage, I think I may just order one from them, I'm sick of waiting on Newegg.

Edit...

Just ordered a True550 from Provantage, after tax and 2day shipping it was $130. Not a bad price for a high quality 550Watt supply😀 Now I can run all the fans I want..lol
