Is an SB x-fi worth it .

For headphone listening , would upgrading form an audigy 2 value to an x-fi make a diff. They are both 24bit .

What advantages are there to the x-fi for use only with headphones.

I have an X-fi but I'm not that sound-sensitive but changing from onboard to X-fi made an world of difference on the 5.1 altec lansings that I have. More bass and crystal clear. The software does have an option for headphones... can't really say how much better but if you are an audiophile I guess it's worth it.

CMSS 3D would be the main difference for you. Worth it? Eh...depends on how good your headphones are, and how much you can sell the Audigy for.

I have the Elite Pro versoin of X-FI. Although a little pricey, (probably would get the platinum next time), it really does sound very good. I use Rhapsody as my main source for music, and some of those plug-ins (24bit Crystalizer, 3d) are kind of fun to play with.

 I see that you post over at Head-Fi also. Why you asking here?

You have the K240, Eggos, and 325i (in the mail). I can't really give much advice except a recommentation for the X-Fi. I think the 24-bit crystalizer is worth it all in it's self.

The X-Fi series is too much $$$ IMO, but zipzoomfly.com has mail-in rebates for them often. I got my XtremeMusic for $95 after a $20 MIR.

Get the X-fi Xtream Music (or whatever it's called). It's ONLY ~$100 😉

I have an X-fi Plat. but it went kaplunk on me and now I have to RMA it (don't worry about it, my problem is pretty rare). Using an old Audigy (original one from 5+ years ago), and I think my ears can tell the difference. It just seems like something is missing, but after that I don't notice it.

I would say Audigy 2ZS to an X-fi probably woudn't be worth it, but if you have somthing less than that, go ahead and get it.

I'm looking at pics of the card right now and I see it has only 4 jacks on the back?? 3 outputs (front, rear, center/sub) and mic I think they are. The audigy 2ZS has 6. What about digital out and line in? Or does this card simply not support that? I don't have anything that would use line in or digital out at this point but I might later on.

Also, that port that looks similiar to an old game port only with extra pins, what is that for?

What are your headphones? I noticed a difference in my Sennheiser HD280's but don't expect miracles out of $10 headphones.

Also, 24 bit crystallizer sounds just like an EQ adjustment. It's a gimmick. CMSS3D sounds nice in the right games though.

I am thinking of making the same upgrade. The Audigy 2 value I have sounds pretty good to me (I use the beyer DT250 headphones), but I need a soundcard for another computer anyway, so I could get an XtremeMusic and put the A2 in the other machine. I don't want to pay over $100 for it though. Maybe I can get one off ebay or something.
