I prefer the CRT hands down because of the good ole native resolution issues. You can get refurbished 21" for great prices. Mine is a refurb and its 3 years old and runs like a champ Sony tube 1600 res 85 mhz refresh rate.

In my opinion the cost of an LCD can not be justified unless you have major space constraints. LCD's are for 2D work, buy a CRT (or two) for gaming/3D applications.

i just bought a nice lcd, i love it for gaming (samsung syncmaster 172N) i don't have a problem with it.. i used to have crt, this is great, because my eyes feel TONS better after looking at the lcd all day and not a crt. i bought mine at circuit city for $450 (17"), but in my opinion it was well worth it for me.

The key to the best appearence with an LCD is running at the native resolution, lets say the native or (default resoluiton we will call it) is 1280 then when you run it at 1600 or a different one thats when they lose some of there quality.

It may not be enough to where you dont like it but thats how they work, thats why I use a CRT I can run any resolution I like and it looks the same up to 1600 which is the max for my monitor.

That`s true however on most LCDs you can get round that when you have to go down to a lower res for gaming ,by running in centred mode, you lose part screen but it still looks excellent, the trouble is when you go to a very low res like 800x600 ,do you want to run it centred(small image on screen centred for best quality) or go full screen for 800x600 and lose some IQ.

Remember not all games support 1280x1024 so you will have to drop down a res or two depending on the game,I do find that my Samsung 191T seems to scale pretty well for lower res,but yes you will notice the drop in IQ for lower resolutions at full screen size.

I guess you`ve never played any games that DON`T SUPPORT 1280x1024 ;).

I think I tried Hitman 2 and it was very crappy res, that alone made me delete it.

If it's only for gaming, it's not such an easy decision. If you remove monetary constraints, I'd say LCD hands down. It's for all the other stuff that I love my 19" LCD. I'd much rather watch DVDs on it than my 32" tubed JVC television. I even like regular TV better on my monitor, but that's probably the AIW filters. When friends come over, we watch the LCD. I guess it's just a novelty thing to an extent. Games are much more colorful, and I have not had eyestrain once since I bought it (and I used to get it all the time). It's a little less focused than a tubed monitor, but it's like a painting vs a picture. Not really that extreme at all, but would you rather view beautiful scenery painted by a skilled artist or a picture of the scene?

MagicaJuve,
It depends on the monitor, look it up somewhere, preferably at www.sony.com, because they're most likely to have it (lol). Also what u want to do, is look at other LCD's as well, i looked at the sony, but i liked the samsung, because of it'l slim(er) design than any of the others i saw, and Also, u WANT to read reviews :) the sony 17" that i looked at, at circuit city was not bad at all, in fact, it probably looks and performs the same way mine does :)
