Is an IT degree a decent degree vs computer science

Was thinking of getting a degree in information technology that focused on system administration and also added in the MCSE track. VS computer science which appears to be mainly programming. Are there still jobs to be found? Is it unwise to get anything other than a CS degree?

imo CS >>>> any IT/MIS type degree

i cant comment regarding the job availability, but at my company the majority of the new hires are CS, computer engineering, electrical engineering and few if any of the other degrees

Think about what you want to do. Look on monster.com etc for jobs that fit that. You should be able to tell if the degree matters or would hurt you.

A lot of moron headhunters want Computer Science and nothing but computer science. Tier-1 call center drone? Yeah, he has a compsci degree.

What he said. I think designing software, figuring out algorithms, and implementing solutions in CS requires more sacrifice than MIS.

I don't know much about network administration, but I have some friends who did the MCSE and other certifications on their own. They managed to find jobs even though they never finished college.
