147 is way above average. Yes, the average is about 100 (believe it or not, although the world is surrounded by intelligent people i.e. in Colleges), the average person isn't all that bright in comparison to those people. I think once you go 160+ you cross the boundaries of being a genius.

Either way, it really doesn't matter a whole lot to me. I know that I'm fairly intelligent to be in the field that I'm in, and I think a test to measure personality would do the world more good than an IQ, anyway. My 2 cents.

Didn't Sheila E. sing a line about "if you have to ask..." :p

IQ tests are overrated, inaccurate and incomplete most of the time, and hopefully you're not the kind of person who needs a number on a piece of paper to prove how smart you are - because no matter what your IQ is, there'll still always be someone smarter than you who doesn't have one of those pieces of paper (or doesn't need one). And that wasn't directed specifically at you Servnya, just a general comment about people that treat IQ numbers like they would their penis size (you can also insert whatever the female equivalent of that would be).

It's always funny when someone just has to mention their IQ score. It's like they are lacking somewhere. Same with people who say they graduated college with such and such degree.

lol, according to some IQ test that I took a while ago, I have an IQ level of 162, funny thing is that I don't think I am a genius.

In my opinion there is no smart people, just stupid people who think they are smart because they have a high IQ level, got a high SAT score(we see these threads at least twice a week), etc...

I was just curious as to what the average is and where a test could be taken. I don't think I will ever take one, personally, because I'm not going to pay for something that will not benefit me at all. I guess that's a somewhat smart thing to do! :)

not that I take too much stock in that, its more in How you apply yourself.

But I felt compelled to reply to this because that is my "magic" number.
I scored that(147) on IQ test given in first or second grade.

Then my junior or senior year in H.S. The school had everyone take it(at that point in my life I was like *yawn* and had no real desire to partake, but like anything once I started, I sorta got into it.)
And Whala, deja vu, 147 again.

160 being genius? I'm not sure about that, My mom always said to me "for a borderline genius, you only seem to have a smart asse"....(hehe typo intentional.)
so I was under the impression it is 150, or could it be 3 sd above is genius? that would be 148.

People can be geniuses. IQ and SAT don't mean anything (well not that much). They are just tests.

I feel i have the potential to become a "genius" and don't need some arbitrary test to decide it for me (althought it's nice to brag! :Q). BTW, I've never had a "real" IQ test (or anythign online either).

Baaahhhh......IQ tests are garbage (especially online tests). I tested very high in elementary school; however, I have taken 3-4 online tests in recent years & almost always maxed them out (usually timed word-association tests). I have always known that I was pretty "smart," but the only way that my "intelligence" has played a real important role is by helping me identify the things that have REALLY helped me to be successful:

1. Common Sense
2. Ambition

Quite frankly, no one gives a rat's @ss how "smart" you are...and you will NEVER EVER be asked your IQ in a real-world situation. If you have "street smarts" & a little "drive," the average person can EASILY surpass your average brainiac. I have a friend who is so outrageously "intelligent" that he is the only person who has ever made me feel intellectually inferior. However, although he is a friend of mine, I must say that this guy is an absolute nut (like mass-murder, stalker, OC-Bomber, etc, etc) He has a genuine photographic memory & puzzle-solving skills like you would-not-believe. On the other hand, he has NO idea how to act around people, & often times really creeps out people that he doesnt know...and he has no idea why. No "normal" social skills, even though he spends a lot of time around people, just like anyone else.

Anyway for what ever it's worth....yeah 147 is quite high for a REAL test (not an internet test - IMO)
Median = 100
Standard Deviation = 15
+/- 1 SD (IQ of 85-115) = about 68% of population falls within this range.
+/- 2 SD (IQ of 70-130) = about 95% of population falls within this range
+/- 3 SD (IQ of 55-145) = about 99.9% of population falls within this range.

Around here, 147 is idiot level. You're also a shrimp if you're under 6' tall, and a loser if you aren't knocking down 6 figures and own a private jet. Oh yeah, and anybody with less then 1500 combined SAT should be embarrassed.

everybody is gifted in their own way -don't forget that. some psychology statistics stated that 19 out of 20 people are geniuses. oh btw, found this statistic that the average undergraduate GPA for the 90% of rich people who went to college is a 2.92 on a 4.0 scale.

That is average, I would say. It is just that 90% of the human race is stupid.

Don't know if this has been said yet..but if you don't know what your IQ means, then that's pretty indicative of how smart you are there.

an unconditioned 2yo is smarter than most allegedly intelligent adults i've known. to be so trainable to follow all the correct and rules of thinking obediently is no great achievement.

IQ tests have to be administered by a profesional. Also they are relative to age so if you go 160 in fourth grade it means nothing by the time your 21. 150+ is genious and 100 is average with 130 being high score. and anything below 80 making you less inteligent. Remember these are age related.

IQ tests taken before some age (18 years?) are relative to age. meaning if you get a score of 200 in 1st grade it means crap when you are in 5th grade. THere is an adult version of the test but you have to consider that even if you score way above average it doesnt correlate to grades, job success, and all sorts of things. THere are two main types of intelligence, crystalized and fluid. crystalized is fact-base and involves you pulling crap out of your ass to solve problems. fluid intelligence is the ability to solve the problems using non-factual knowledge.
There is also such thing as "working memory" which correlates with digit span. (The number of digits you can remember in short term memory) If you cant remember the aspects of the problem at hand too well...then you can be inadept at solving problems even if you are intelligent according to IQ tests.

there are all sorts of aspects of intelligence that those tests dont grade. dont trust it. dont spend your $200 unless you suspect you or someone you love is a true closet genious.

What I really find amusing about this thread is all the people saying "well I really don't think an IQ test means all that much and we really can't judge intelligence by it....blah blah blah",and then they proceed to give their supposed IQ test score.haha

Well,I know what mine is but don't feel compelled to post it.;)
