Is an Athlon64 2800+ the same as a Sempron 2800+?

I bought a (supposedly) Athlon64 2800+ in the For Sale/Trade forum and the guy sent me an AMD Sempron 2800+. It is packaged just like the Athlon64 (meaning the actual chip) and is s754. Are these two the same thing? Have I been had?

amd 64 is 64-bit
sempron is 32-bit

test it out on a comp,

packaging could be different, but the chip could be a 64

it usually sez "64" on the chip if it's an AMD 64

Definitely not the same thing. The Sempron is the "value" Athlon64, it doesn't support 64 bit and it has half the Cache.

I would contact the seller if I were you and try to straighten that out.

It could just be the packaging. Why don't you post a picture or type the markings on the CPU?

Probably an honest mistake on the part of the seller, but one that should most definetly be corrected.

He said he didn't even know and offered me a $30 refund. But then later when I was about to leave him heat I see that he purchased it from some other guy on the AMDMB forums and right in there it says "Description: Sold a AMD Sempron socket 745 system."

hahaah... well was it a good deal? an a64 2800+ is 1.8ghz while a sempron 754 2800+ is 1.6ghz...

trying to remain impartial, maybe the seller just forgot? how much did you pay for the 'a64'? if -$30 is worth it... o/c the heck out of it :)

The Sempron is slower, but for $30 less, may be a good deal (check what it retails for on Newegg compared to what he sold it to you for)

$30 less is a good deal considering the price difference between a 2800 a64 and sempron is more like $20. But anyway, I'd be pissed if I got a sempron instead of an a64 since no one in their right mind would buy a sempron if an a64 is only $20 more :)

however there may not be any A64's for $20 more
When life gives you lemons make lemonade
as he said- OC the... out of it
and let's watch this seller- unless he is such a newbie that he did not know that there was a differnece except brand- which he obviously new when he purchased
