yes, er I don't think the tree has a soul though, so it depends on your definitions.

An apple is the creation of an apple tree, so it's not a living being, but the tree is.

There are lots of living cells in stuff a human body produces, but that stuff isn't a living being on it's own, obviously,

This thread is not about anything other then me wondering if an apple is ever alive. I am eating an apple right now and started staring at it.

Then I started to wonder if I had eaten the apple while it was still attached to the tree would I be eating a living creature. Then I wondered how long after it had been picked would it remain alive, and, what the cells in things like lettuice look like, since, at one time they were once living plant cells.

Yes the apple is alive as it is growing on the living tree. and since it can continue to ripen once picked I would say it is still alive after harvest for a while.

Well, that's the phallacy of veganism, isn't it? there's absolutely no way to eat something wasn't, at one time, alive. Unless you eat only elements and manmade chemicals. But vegetables, fruits, nuts, etc. are all, to one extent or another, living things.

It is composed of cells, and they are alive!

Yup. Ovary Eaters!

Actually when you eat an Apple that's been sitting in the grocery store for a few days it's STILL alive. Or at least the seeds are.

You take a pile of sand. When is it a pile? If it has 400 grains of sand, you call it a pile, but if you were to take away one grain, is it still a pile? Where do you draw that line? When is the pile of sand, not a pile?

well, much of the point to veganism is that the market for animals and their byproducts has resulted in the mistreatment of some animals. you can mistreat an apple, but it's not going to feel it like an animal would.
