... cause I've had platinum cards for years... and an AMEX blue since I was a student. Is their Gold card equivalent to other company's platinum ? I don't need another credit card, but I was just curious why it seems to be a big deal.. the way it was sent out. Or maybe I should replace my blue with it if it's that much better... ?

EDIT>> "First year's annual fee is waived, $90 for 2nd year". Yeah right.

I have a Amex Gold Corporate card, and My boss has the Platinum one.
Not sure what the advantage is, there is no limit on the plain old green one!

All AMEX cards besides Blue have an annual fee. In exchange, you have no pre-set spending limit.

Platinum card holders get a lot of extra benefits, but the annual fee is steep.

You have to pay the balance off at the end of the month on that one though. Blue, you can have a balance on it. Amex Gold is a Charge card...not a credit card.

Now the amex BLACK is the top of all amex cards. I don't know the details, but I did see it on some ET special or something, about all the famous people who have them. In order to get it, you recieve a special invitation from amex to obtain the card, and i BELIEVE BUT AM NOT POSITIVE, that in order to get the invitation, you must spend over $100,000 a year on your amex card for some amount of years before they offer it to you. And then in order to keep the card, you m ust spend over $100,000 a year on the card. It's SOMETHING to that effect, but im not positive of the details.
