Is AMD stopping production on 939 X2 chips any time soon?

I have a DFI Lanparty with 2 gigs of PC3200 that I'd like to use for as long as I can and was wondering if AMD is going to stop production on 939 chips and push the AM2s? If so I think I'll need to pick up a 3800 X2 pretty soon.

Thanks!

Yes, AMD should stop production of X2s within the next 3 or so months. Last order date is Dec 31, last ship date is June 30, 2007.

I think they are being phased out by year's end...hence the price cuts on them (to clear out stock).

Do you guys think the 3800 is the best bet? I've seen them go for $100 - $120 used on ebay for a retail one, which seems like a killer deal. Or should I wait a bit?

I personally reconmend the Opteron 165. Better OC'ing in general (YMMV, but I can guarentee u can hit the 2ghz of the X2 3800), more L2 cache, and a KILLER heatsink. Unless you have a very, very, very good heatsink (Scythe Infinity, Thermaltake SI-120) already, the extra $30 for an Opteron 165 is a savings in itself. Even the Zalman 9500 cools about 2 degrees better: http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=dcopteroncooling&page=8

Plus, your getting a new processor and none of the potential E-Bay problems. 9/10 those used processors are used b/c they can't hit high clock speeds.

And if your ordering a dual core AMD and NOT overclocking it you are crazy. NM, you have a dfi board. No way r you not oc'ing the chip!

Jusy make sure those used CPUs are X2s, there's also a single-core 3800+ part...
