Is Amazon Customer Service going the way of Newegg?

Normally, like most of us here, I think Amazon's customer service is top-notch...but once in a while...

I was trying to get them to price match a television being sold at Fry's...from a deal I found on SlickDeals.

Amazon decided they couldn't do the price match...because SlickDeals isn't an authorized reseller...🙄

Amazon, I am disappoint.

(I actually SHOULD make the drive to the Frys south of Portland...I'd save $172 in sales tax...and it would cost about $70 to make the trip in my truck...a savings of about $100...but it would take all fucking day (195 miles each way)

Never mention SlickDeals, only link to the Fry's ad directly.

And yes, you should go to Wilsonville Fry's. I got many a deal there when I lived in the PDX area.

I'm OK with them not always matching loss leaders at other stores.

That just gets passed on as slightly higher prices for everything else.

Just call again and don't mention SlickDeals, unless you think they've noted your account. Or make a new account for your wife or something with the same address. It would be work saving $170 and a day of driving.

Looks like it's sold out at Fry's now. They've removed it from their website.

Just the mention of Slick Deals SHOULDN'T matter. SD doesn't sell goods, they just post deals that people find. I plainly told them that the TV was at Fry's...and even sent a link to it.

I am disappoint.

You gave them an easy "out" by bringing slickdeals into the picture. Never do that no matter who you're dealing with. Anything that could be considered or even misinterpreted as grounds for denial that they don't need to know about to approve you should not be included in any communication with them. I wouldn't consider this some kind of breakdown in customer service though. I would deny any price matching request that was even slightly funny looking if I were them too.

yeah i like Amazon but they disappointed me last week. they didn't price match Microcenter on an item. MC had it $100 less than Amazon too. wow.

Amz gave me a $20 voucher due to the ups debacle. The item in question was like $8 and I did not need it by Xmas. Thanks Amz!

And what was this mysterious item?

BTW, Amazon beat both a locally operated store and Best Buy on a camera I wanted and I saved $600. No, I didn't even have to ask for the savings. They simply price matched B&H and you have to get both to basket the item to even know what the true selling price was.

Oh yeah, I paid for 2-day shipping and got the item 28 hours later on Xmas Eve. Go Amazon!

Amazon only guarantee price matches on televisions and cellphones. They do not price match anything else AFAIK.

Sounds like you might confused the rep?

I've been very happy with Amazon's customer service in terms of ease of returns and stuff like that, but I've never had to deal with a human being before.

I bought a Panasonic 65VT60 in November for 2299. Amazon price matched Paul's TV for that price before I bought it.

The next week, Amazon lowered the price to 2149. I messaged them with the link to their own item.

They changed the price, then got back to me and said since it was that low when they checked, no match.

I then got into a chat and told the dude that's what the price was when I sent it in, not my fault they changed it before someone got to it.

He dodged and dodged. First said "it was a time-limited price, so no match". I told him it said nothing of the sort. Then he said "they had no record of the price ever being 2149"....which had to be a bald-faced lie.

I pointed out a Slickdeals thread where that price was reported and then a few days later reported that it went back up. Showed him Camelcamelcamel, which keeps track of Amazon pricing which showed that price was in effect when I sent the PM request in.

Response was "sorry, we can't accept info from other sites about our pricing".

My guess is, the price was a mistake, and they simply changed it and lied about it to me.

75" at fry's?

Yep...Samsung.

The one in the ad has been taken down from the Fry's website.

I've continued the email conversation with Amazon over this...yet they keep denying the price match because it's from SlickDeals. Apparently the people I'm communicating with are too fucking stupid to realize that I wouldn't be buying FROM SlickDeals...

Here's the SD thread. Looks like some people were able to get Amazon to match the price. Not me.

The rules for price matching probably aren't clear to the reps. I've had to argue over price matching at Best Buy several times because they don't understanding their own rules.

I can't complain. Ordered some random stuff with Prime shipping which was scheduled to arrive Dec 24th. Apparently UPS fubar'd so it didn't arrive that day, and Amazon proactively gave me a $20 credit (the whole order was only like $25).

Then they should just do away with the policy. Fry's is on their list of sites that they will match.

I also wish they'd get rid of the policy. I think it's mainly just abused by people looking to take advantage of them, again causing higher prices for their good customers.

nope. just bought a kindle 8.9" hdx... the promotion for an extra $30 was done for but i asked to please apply it to my recent hdx order and they did PLUS gave me $10 back for tax... which is awesome 😀
