Is all fish considered seafood?

So, is salmon considered red meat? What about mahi mahi (sp?)? Orange roughy (I know, duh eh?).

So, seriously. I asked someone who just said they didn't eat red meat if they ate fish, and I got a "WTF?" look.

This is an update from my earlier question. It turns out they weren't questioning the red meat comment, but the fact that this person had earlier said they don't like seafood, and then I ask later if they like fish. Fish != seafood! When I say I'm eating catfish, I don't say I'm having seafood. So, give me your opinions... does fish = seafood (aside from the obvious fish that do in fact come from the sea).

Uhh fish is fish. Red meat is red meat. There's a difference. Red meat comes from mammals not from fish.

I think the term "red meat" applies to grazing animals only, even though salmon has that kind of color.

I too thought the look was a little unwarranted. I don't know of a single person who doesn't eat "red meat" that doesn't eat fish. Oh well...

Is alligator really red meat? Buffalo duh, beef duh, ostrich is the most beef-like poultry I've ever had, so I guess that could be, but alligator isn't a 'heavy' or very red-looking meat. Actually, it's almost completely white and tastes like a cross between chicken and fish, both non-red meats right? what defines red meat? is there a technical definition? or is it a bunch of nutritionalists that need something useful to do?


Anyway, I agree with werk. All fish is seafood, but not all seafood is fish.
