m thinking of getting a ti4200 -- and Albatron makes the cheapest 128mb version (160 at newegg). I'm not going to overclock -- (maybe I don't need 128mb and 64 would be ok for stuff like morrowind).

Never heard of Albatron... Also the one review on newegg says the core runs at 250/500 which seems odd for the 128mb vfersion.

Albatron is a new Taiwanese company to hit the scene. They are better known as Chun Yun Electronics and the co-founder of Gigabyte is their CEO. Only a handful of reviews are out on their MX440, and if you look hard enuff you might locate a Ti review.

Laugh that one review on newegg was by me actually. I double-checked the core/mem speeds with RivaTuner, and sure enough default settings are 250/500. I've had this card for maybe a month now? and have had no problems with it at all. My only complaint was that it came with Serious Sam which I already have, instead of Serious Sam 2. I haven't tried overclocking yet.. gonna wait until I get a faster processor because right now I'm still using a 933 duron. I think I tested 3dMark 2001 and got a score around 6700-6800, obviously quite CPU limited. Hope this helps.

Hey Alterec: Is the fan on the Albatross loud? I know Toms HW rated the loudness of the GF4 fans, but he didn't have this card on his list (that snob . . . )

1YP-

The fan isn't that loud as far as I've noticed. Of course I have no basis of comparison as I was upgrading from a Radeon LE (the original DDR one) which didn't even have a hsf. I'm using a Lian-Li PC60 so perhaps the fans that came with that overshadow the Albatron's fan, but overall my computer doesn't seem any louder than before. FYI the new Detonators (40.xx) took my score up to 7100 or so 3dmarks 2k1.
