Is Acer bad?

I am looking ot get a core duo laptop that i will be using to run vmware invirinments as well as compiling c, c++, and c#. I am looking at the acer 4204:

I am wondering if Acer is a reputable laptop company. A comparable IBM is gonna cost me close to 2k and currently Dell and Asus dont have duo platforms. As soon as i get it it will be running winxp pro so there is so need to point out it has home on it!
 
Acer has actually developed a very decent reputation in laptops. I believe Dell offers 2 duo core platforms...the e1705 and e1505.
