Is a wireless networking setup good for online games?

I currently have a Linksys BSFR41 router connected to two computers to share an internet connection but am getting a third computer and don't really want to wire another connection across rooms to share it also. The wife and I play DAoC and share the connection. Now, the son wants to play also!

I keep seeing 11mb/s as the rated speed on these and just wondered if I'd actually lose bandwith and speed over the 10/100 mb/s hard wired network. I have no idea if I even used the full capability of the 10/100mb/s system before but want to know if the wireless network would cause unwanted latency in network games and internet sharing with 3 computers.

If these wireless networking setups are capable for online gaming and internet sharing, which ones are good?
Do I need 802.11g over b?

Thanks

An 801.11b network will give you an actual speed of about 4-6mbps.

For playing games, this throughput will be fine, most will make do with 56kbps, let alone 4000kbps ;)

As for latency (ping), a wireless adapter will add about 5ms at most. And it won't affect the wired network either, that will still be just as it was.

If you are wanting to transfer lots of files to the remote computer, then the extra speed of the 802.11g would probably help, but for just plain old gaming and internet sharing, it will be fine :)

I want to use a wireless router to connect a computer on the second floor of my house to the cable connection in the basement. Will the wireless router be able to send a constant signal through the basement? I want to use the internet connection for gaming also. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a good wireless router and NIC?
