Is a terminator required at the end of an LVD/SE 68pin U160 cable?

Is it required to have a terminator device if I only have one scsi hard drive on that channel? What happens if I don't use one? Thx.

You always have to terminate the chain regardless of the number of devices. If you are not properly terminated, problems can range from things simply not working at all to instability, data loss, data corruption.

SE harddisks often have built-in terminators - you can activate them with a jumper.

LVD always needs a separate jumper at the end of the chain.

If you don't use one, at best you have greatly reduced transmission rates. At worst, data corruption.
