Is a Radeon 6850 a worthy upgrade from a GTX260 Core 216?

It's a core 216 and I purchased it on the date I indicated. Can't tell you much more than that. I think we beat this horse as much as we can and really isn't important. 😎

toyota is going to need you to send him your receipts, invoices, emails, and any other documents pertaining to your purchase so that he can clear up this situation. Lol 😉

Or you could just take his word for when it actually got released 😛 , but ye otherwise, he needs all of the above-mentioned sent to his mailbox, priority mail mind you!

lol, lets be realistic here. the facts are that the card did not even come out until 9/16/2008 so no he did not buy that model card on 8/13/2008. either the invoice is wrong or the card is being mistakenly reported as a 216sp when its really a 192sp.

You sound a bit obsessive 😛

I'm leaning to he is holding a grudge over the 192SP cards that were sold as 216SP units. Although, now that I think about it "bit obsessive" covers that as well.

To OP, I'd just leave it as is. Wouldn't even bother downgrading, it will make a nice hand me down or a selling point when you get a new computer.

lol, why is that being obsessive? its just common sense to know he could not have possibly purchased a card over a month before it even existed.

Wow. Now I don't have common sense. I hope Newegg will let me purchase some. 😉

lol if you actually think that you purchased a card over a month before it even existed then you certainly do not have common sense. again there is probably some other explanation but to keep standing by that claim is silly.

Perhaps I did pre-order it. I actually don't really care - I am not sure why you are obsessing over this? Thanks for derailing my thread to make your point, by the way.

Cards may 'exist' a month or even months before they are available for purchase.

Thinking about it, the cards most likely did exist a month before release. You think they just magically appear on retailers' shelves at launch date? Nope, they have to be manufactured, packed, distributed well before launch so they're available on that date.

I mean, let's face it, Bulldozer has been seen in the wild already and they've delayed the launch date how many times now?

so why is it when I make a comment that it is considered obsessing? you are the one that brought up when you supposed purchased it. I simply showed you that the card was not released at that time. you then still claim that your receipt has a dated over a moth earlier. I guess you bought a Bulldozer cpu last month too. 😛

now lets get to the facts and be done here. you did NOT buy a gtx260 216sp over a month before it was released. if this was some type of pre order, then surely you would remember ordering a card and waiting nearly a month for it. tbh I doubt that anyway since a card that had not been released would likely not even be listed for pre order that for ahead. other option is that it is NOT even a 216sp model like you claim. that is probably what it is but you never said the exact model. if it is being reported as a 216sp and you did buy it at that time then it is simply being misread which was a known issue for some 192sp cards.

Exactly.

I was meaning they did not exist in the retail channel for purchase yet. they were not available for purchase until 9/16/2008 when they were launched.

It's a bit confusing that you're asking us for a gpu upgrade recommendation when you don't game, but I guess I have to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you do other gpu intensive stuff like 3d rendering and stuff like that.

In that case, what you want is a workstation video card (Quadro or FirePro).

If that's right, then you should tell us what price range you're looking for.

I love a lot of these responses,

"What? You don't game? You don't need anything! You are beneath anything new with a current feature set. Be gone with you now! Back under your bridge! Oh, and if you do ever come back we want proof of purchase." 😛

It's more like there isn't anything that a general user would gain from modern GPU technology.

That is if you use them, you wouldn't if you just browsed the web.

I feel like I've stepped into a Monty Python script. 😀

The OP wants to know what the differences are. I'm sure he can already see whether or not his 260 is powerful enough for what he does. Instead he gets, You don't need anything new. You don't even know when you bought your card. Some people are just argumentative and condescending for no good reason.

Yeah I am getting a ton of responses that do not have anything to do with what I asked. Oh well.

Slacker-the only reason why I didn't go with a WS card is I think they are typically higher priced than the gaming cards, right?
