Is a mobo swap possible?

I have a comp that is about 4 years old, it's a cyrix 6x86 (ok, you can stop laughing now) and it's just becoming too slow. I was wondering if taking the motherboard and chip out of that box and leaving everything else in would work. I'm planning on replacing it with an Abit kr7a-133 and an XP 2000+ chip. Am I going to have problems with getting everything to accept the new board and chip or should it be fine?

A new case such as an Enlight 7237 w/ a 300w PSU will only set you back another $55-$65. I doubt that case your Cyrix is in has a good enough power supply for the XP. Hope this helps.

Try it but may be you will need a new PSU.
you may not have to reinstall windows in order to work
but i'll recomend it, back up your data and do clean install.
it such a nice mobo setup, you'll have fun play with it.

For $50 cheaper i would go with XP1900+ and use the extra
on a good PSU, so you don't have to worry. with a good RAM
this board should be easy to go up to 145 FSB[12*145]=1740Mhz
it's gonna count as XP2100+ already.

Just my $.02

hmm, first question to ask is, is the case the ATX form factor or the AT form factor. The way to tell? If ATX (what you want) it might be possible, but I would definately put a new power supply in there. And probably a new case as well.

I'd suggest this case (an Evercase)

I've built two rigs with these, a beige and the black, (have modded the black one with a window and a green cold cathode. Excellent cases.

You'll need a new case! A new case, powersupply, ram, and err.... Vid card? What'll you be running on that beast? I'd downgrade to the epox8kha+ and xp1800 and get myself a vid card and maybe a HD.
