Is a HSF upgrade worth the money?

I just built my first OC system (see rig profile below). In short it's an unlocked Duron 600 with a stock HSF running at 927 (9X103) The only higher setting I have tried is 1017. It posted but windows was (as they say...) fuhgeddaboutit! I will play around with it a bit, but right now I am enjoying Soldier of Fortune too much ;)

If I spend $40 for a FOP38 and a tube of AS (w/ shipping tax, etc). Am I going to get much more speed out of this thing?

Another point is that my house is pretty cold. When it is hot and humid in the summer, am I going to see a substantial performance decline?

Well what are your temps? You probably would get a few more MHz out of the CPP with a good HSF.

when it gets hot in the house, the computer is gonna blow in hot air, so it might make it too hot to be stable and you might have to keep it at stock speeds (or a little above)... if you wanna spend some extra money go for the heatsink...fop38 if you dont mind the noise i guess :) you might be able to hit 1ghz with a better cooler tho..

Don't get the fop38, get the taisol or the fop32-1, unless you want to go deaf :). Also if you only need a small application, someone on the forsale/trade forum is selling small packets of it for $5 shipped, or you can buy on of the 3.5 gram packages for like $6.50. But DON'T GET THE FOP38!

Hey, you are running a 600@927 - that's pretty good!:D I doubt another HS/fan combo would get you much higher.

New York, hmmm... It does get pretty hot there, so maybe you should get an upgrade for the summer months.

You have PM about the Arctic Silver!;)

I'd hesitate spending $40 on a new HSF, but seeing as you got it to post @1017 w/ the stock hsf, it could be worth a try!
