Nice work on erasing the poll and preventing anyone who already voted from voting again.

I can assure you that divx is never going to be better quality than DVD
and whether it looks equal or worst depends on the bitrate encoded...

What about the staggering popularity of DVDs? I think that supports mine more.

The only reason divx is so popular is because it's FREE.

And I didn't think about that, notfred. It doesn't matter anyway. Just speak your mind in a post unless I can delete the poll and add a new one? :)

There are more copies of DivX installed than DVD players sold.

That is quite amazing when you consider that you need a computer to install DivX, but you don't need a computer to buy a DVD player.

But you need MONEY to buy a DVD player and just a computer to install divx.

And you need MONEY to buy a computer so you can install DivX on it.

So it all evens out.

Therefore DivX = DVD.

You have no sense of logic, do you?

People don't buy computers just to install divx. As I said before, if divx wasn't free, people would just buy the DVD.

Your argument breaks down here because huge numbers of households owned computers before DVD players hit the market. Besides, it's not like people buy a computer just for Divx. I'm also willing to bet a substantial amount of money that most people use Divx because they can illegally download movies, not because the format offers quality near that of DVDs.

If someone made a set-top DivX player, I bet that it would outsell DVD players.

even a well well encoded divx with high bit rate cannot compare to dvd.

It comes close to dvd quality though, but in fast moving scenes, the compression in divx will show its ugly head.

Find me a reputable company that would produce an item that in most cases would be used to circumvent copyright laws. The fact of the matter is that Divx gained its enormous popularity because it made pirating movies so much easier. The number of companies that would cast that into the wind and still go ahead and produce the device is very close to zero.

voodooguy has a way of making you wrong in every single situation...

if you said it was dark out, he would say it was light out and come up with some way to persuade you to believe this...

he is an antagonizer, and lives to disagree with everyone...

i cant stand reading his posts, he should have been banned a while ago... for what? being the way he is... he is the type of person i would punch in the face without thinking twice about it if i met him IRL...

end my rant...

<< well they must be one of the following:

a) blind : (there is a very visible difference in dvd(mpeg-2) and divx(mpeg-4)) no matter what kind of bit rate you choose for divx
b) deaf : there is no 5.1 dd or dts when using divx, (the wm9 codec will have dd 5.1 support, microsoft ownz jo0)
c) retarded : just because it doesnt seem like it to a deaf mute doesnt mean its lossless
d) all of the above
>>

DivX is much less quality. That's why it takes a 5gig disk to be able to hold a DVD and a simple DivX rip can fit on a single 850MB CD. :)

Cisco, SBC, Linksys

Edit: Even Apple is in on this game! Their computers come with mp3 Library software as standard! Some of their machines come with DVD burners as standard! They just lowered their DVD-R prices to $5. They are selling a portable mp3 player!

Apple, those gosh darn pirates! </sarcasm>
