Is a dead pixel on new lcd that uncommon

Just bought a new 19in Hanns-G Monitor that came with a Dead pixel. It is in a place that isn't that noticeable but knowing it is there bugs me. Newegg's policy on returns is there have to be 8 dead pixels, so I am stuck with it. How many of you have an LCD that has a dead pixel. I tried several internet recommendations on how to get rid of them but they didn't work.

That's one reason I prefer buying LCD monitors "used" if I can.

Last LCD I bought had a dead pixel right smack in the center. I know if you buy it online there has to be several dead pixels depending on the return policy. Are retail stores any different?

As far as I know, you just have to deal with it. Part of the risk of buying a LCD monitor online.

With a lot of retail stores returns are less of a hassle than if you bought online. (And there's always more fudgeability with the reason for return, for people willing to go that route.)

I haven't noticed any dead pixels on my lcd monitor or lcd tv, but I'm so not going to try and find them lol

I wasn't concerned about buying online...I would rethink that if I ever need another monitor. The pixel isn't that distracting. It is about the size of a period (.) on the bottom right of the screen about 2 inches up. The return issue is a pain. We just bought a motherboard, cpu, and ram from newegg. One of them is doa but couldn't figure out which one so had to return them all. It will take about 2 weeks when all is said and done to get new parts at the door step.

not much chance of getting a dead pixel
higher end models probably get better quality control panel batches

The whole dead pixel policy pisses me off. I don't buy something and expect it to only be 90% working right. It better be damn flawless or I'm taking it back and getting a new one. My LG monitor came without any dead pixels at all <3

I'm glad my LG panel didn't come with any dead pixels, or any that I can notice. That's why I'd only buy a panel from a good company. Do dead pixels on TV's have the same policy?

Some online stores allows customers to return a product within 14 business days if they aren't happy with it. It might be due to some law or something, dunno. Anyway, You won't lose anything if you contact the store directly and ask if you can return the display as long as you do it within 14 business days, preferably as soon as you've noticed the dead pixel.

if you want to be a bastard you could go to best buy, purchase same model lcd, carefully open box, remove lcd, replace with your defective lcd, reseal box, return lcd, celebrate.

My dad did that with a broken SNES system at walmart years ago. Worked like a charm.

Try just returning it because your not "satisfied" with it's color or something, then get a new one.

I've got a stuck pixel (at least I thought it was) can be seen as green when background is black but unnoticeable with any other background color.
I've tried jscreenfixer to no avail. I thought I'd give this a shot but while trying to center the 1x1 flashing pixel over the stuck pixel, it looks like the stuck dot is actually at the junction of 4 pixels... sorta like a shadow or ghost of the corner, much smaller than an actual pixel. I have no idea what the problem is but it certainly isn't a stuck/dead pixel. Anyone heard of this before?

If the OP's monitor has a resolution of 1280 x 1024 (which is not uncommon for that size monitor) and a single dead pixel, then the monitor is 99.9999% "working right". I am curious about how far your expectation that every product you buy must be "damn flawless" extends.

@OP: Having 1 or 2 dead pixels on an LCD is pretty common.

Pixels on an LCD are made up of red, green, and blue sub-pixels. It sounds like you have a stuck green sub-pixel.

I'd NEVER seen a bad LCD pixel until recently, and I've personally purchased several LCD monitors over the past several years.

But I recently bought a pair of Envision 22" monitors and one had an always-on pixel. And I purchased another Envision 19" monitor a year or so ago and it, too, has an always-on pixel.

Hmm...come to think of it, the first 19-inch LCD monitor I ever bought (another Envision) didn't have bad pixels, but has developed a weird "shadowing" effect all long the bottom of the screen....hmmm.

the thing is that this stuff is easily checked for at the factory. the problem is how they deal with it. instead of going with honesty and marking some panels as lower grade they just toss them all together and screw some customers in the process, making it a purchase lottery. if you know you are buying a panel with X dead pixels for less then its fine.

I'll try the program again but it definitely looks like the stuck dot is less than the whole length of the pixel, which makes me think it's not just a stuck sub-pixel. I know that lcd sub-pixels are vertical and this stuck green dot looks like it's at the corner like I said. No matter how where I move the 1x1 in that program, it doesn't seem to cover stuck dot.

I've done the massage trick for stuck pixels with positive results.
