Is a college degree requirement for most jobs racist?

Only 13 percent of bachelor degree holders are African American, the majority of degree holders are white.

is the increasing requirement of bachelor degrees for jobs a stealth way of discriminating against blacks in the job market?

It's much easier and legal to say sorry, you do not qualify because you have no degree.

The percentage of Americans who are African Americans is around 13% too, so if your statistic is correct they would be fairly represented. But I don't think it is.

According to 2012 census information (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/who-is-earning-college-degrees-and-who-isnt/) if we're going to call this discrimination then hispanic people are getting it the worst. And asian people are getting it the best, not (non-hispanic) white people.

And we'd have to call it sexist. Against men, of course. http://cnsnews.com/news/article/ali-meyer/women-now-33-more-likely-men-earn-college-degrees

But judging equality by outcomes doesn't seem like a great standard.

Of course it is racist - the blacks are being prevented from going to college.

The NAACP and United Negro College fund are just scams.

Maybe if the black community would take the prospect that education is a way oiut of their mess; then more would get into school. I am sure that there are plenty of racist people that would sponsor a black teen to go to college.

blacks are 13% of the population so if they have 13% of degrees that sounds fine.

Lots of tech companies are just hiring talented high school graduates now. They aren't even bothering with college. I also have friends who have no school experience in programming (they had Marketing, Poly Sci, or Economics degrees) get hired at Google because they tested well at coding at a job agency test and Google gave them a shot and now they are making over $100k. Feel bad for all those people who put years studying CS and getting internships and then can't get a proper programming job...

As far as American blacks go, college is a pipe dream considering a large number are failing out of high schools. Ironically African immigrants are actually the highest educated among all incoming immigrant groups, with something like 98%+ having college degrees.

Blacks are not being held back by anything but themselves. First you have to believe that going to school is something you can succeed at. However, passing an entrance exam is often hard if you did not earn real grades like A-B-C. I just read an article about teachers that just give minorities and other under-achievers a D- just to get them out of their class. They were claiming that about 50% of high school graduates couldn't do math at a 4th grade level which is basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Most college degrees require both basic English and math subjects like Algebra 2 and geometry, English composition, essay writing and literature. Then there is the dreaded term paper.

Fortunately, you can take all these beginner classes and GED prep courses at a community college. However, it still takes going to class and doing homework with a positive attitude. All of this can be paid for with Pell Grants from the Federal Government, JTPA, State Grants, etc. I was able to get funding to go back to college after being laid off from a factory job. JTPA paid for my books and tuition. Since Pell grants are based on income of your parents, then if you are from a low-income family you would probably get about $5,500 possible PELL Dollars and other state and local grants. The people at the most disadvantaged are families in the lower middle class who make too much money for a PELL Grant. You can still get Education Loans also or a deferred payment plan. Going to school is hard work and it takes time and money and a will to succeed.

Most important is no criminal record and no drug charges. It is hard for felons to qualify for some courses. Impossible for fields like nursing or police work or dentistry, that requires you to pass a background check and a drug screening urinalysis.

A statistic like that is a strong indicator that the vast majority of them are coming here specifically to get degrees in American universities.

Way to take an already stupid premise OP and lower the bar even more by going full retard.

Educated African immigrants are also often conservative. I've seen American blacks at uni tell African blacks to "go back to Africa" after the Africans criticized a colleges "Black Culture" week that was just a bunch of hip hop dance and rap parties.

I recall watching Barack Olinsky's brother telling an interviewer that Kenya's problem was that England didn't stay long enough. He rmentioned some former colonies that are doing better than Kenya, and he traces their success to longer British influence.
Barack Obama's Half-Brother George a Secret Republican?

One thing that is often overlooked when discussing black ppl in the U.S. is where they were from. West Africans = black ppl in the U.S. They act very differently then the rest of the Africans. Obama is half black, but his black is from the east african side. Spend enough time around east & west Africans & you quickly learn the difference.

not racist at all...companies have the right to hire employees with certain minimum of education...in this case a college degree.

Logically it's not racist in an of itself, the employer is trying to get the best candidates for their jobs. If they feel having candidates with college degrees gives them better performance so be it. It can, however, result in disparate impact and potential lawsuits. If you require a degree for a job that doesn't really require a degree, and by doing so you end up excluding some categories of candidates, you're setting yourself up for a discrimination suit.

Yep. OP is a total sub-moron if he believes what he posted. Or he's just a troll.

An African American friend of mine told me that the African immigrants despise their US counterparts. Maybe if inner-city black kids weren't being ridiculed for going it the 'white way' for actually trying to succeed in school and instead followed that example, their lot might improve.

Racist - no.

Silly - yes.

And, it's getting worse. I see more and more jobs asking for MBAs, on jobs that pay $50K.

Yeah, I want to invest 2 years or so full time to get an MBA and go a good $40k in debt to land a $50k/yr job.🙁 Totally agree with you on this one. For a lot of things these day, college is a scam. And a lot of HR types are idiots. And speaking of HR, there's a good example of a job that shouldn't require a 4 year degree.

Calling out racists = racist. Stormfront lite.

Depends on what it is your calling them out for. There are certainly racist white people in the US, which is deplorable. But some of the call-outs are just plain idiotic. And black people claiming they can't be racists because they (may or may not) have been the recipients of racism is stupid as well. Just because you're a member of a politically approved victim group doesn't give you license to do or say whatever you want without repercussions.
