A transunion score isn't fico. In fact it goes up to 950 and not 850. Based on an equivalent percentage, its a 658 fico.

An example of their deceptive scores, from their site:

fico

transunion

(according to these, tu goes up to 925, not the 950 I said earlier)

ah thanks for pointing out the different in scoring scales.

i'm a senior in college now and i'm starting to try and build up my credit. i have a citibank mastercard and a bank one visa. i have a decent amount of student loans.

i've never had a late payment on my credit cards and i've never overdrafted from my checking account.

what can i try to do to increase my credit score?

is it worthwhile to get an amex or discover card even if i don't plan on using it much.

i mostly keep big purchases on my mastercard and smaller things and bills on my visa

You can put your credit cards on autopayment, just in case. They don't advertise it but they usually offer it.

Else, car loans are good for building credit.

what's your revolving credit like (ratio of debt to credit limit)... even if you pay off monthly in full.. but use say $1500 of you $2000 credit limit... it will look like you have high revolving credit. May want to see if anyone will boost your limit, or opt for a third card (altho, 3 should probably be enough ever). Get a citibank dividens card, or one of the new chase ultimate's, both are 5% cash back on groceries and gas... chase throws 5% on drug stores and home improvement.. AND no limit on returns (citi is at $300/yr) :).

It's good. Don't worry about it. With a score like that, whether it's TU or Fico, your credit would not likely come into play often on whether or not you were accepted/rejected for a loan (other factors like income always would).

I got the citi a couple weeks ago. Nobody told me about the chase card, though I did know about the $300 limit on citi. BTW citi also covers for drugstores!
