$300 AUD = $222 US If this is for PCI-E I would say it's a little overpriced. Should be more in the $170-$190 US range. If this is for AGP, then it's not a bad deal . . .

it's PCI-E.

I'll keep looking then, but our range is rather more limited over here :(

Indeed, and most our prices appear to be slightly higher (after conversion) than US prices....
Oh, and where are you getting a 6800GS for 299? Most i've seen is between $310 and $400 (oc'd versions). I'm looking to get the Leadtek 6800GS for $319...

But for your question, $299 is a good price, assuming it's a good brand card. And assuming the native res for the 19" is 1280x1024, the 6800GS should run most new games at max/high graphics with decent/good framerates.

The 19' WS is 1440x900 afaik. Nintek (www.nintek.com.au i think) is the place i found it for $299, they have a good reputation at OCAU too...

If you think $299 AUD is bad for a 6800 GS then you have seen nothing :p

Here in NZ:

6800 GS = $380
7800 GT = $520
7800GTX = $700ish
7800GTX = Roughly $1200

You're prices aren't too different from ours. Hehe, funny story, my store of choice (Umart) strangely upped the price of the sapphire x850xt to $699! The rest of their prices are, for the most part, some of the cheapest in Aus, but that's crazy...

Nintek seems to be quite good, they're usually recommended highly, as well as PC Maniacs. I'm assuming it's the InnoVISION one (Has anyone had any dealings with InnoVISION that could confirm whether it's a good brand to buy from?). It should play most games at your native res with high settings and get good framerates, though the likes of fear might be a different story.

Anyway, I'd suggest checking here or here for the best priced stuff. (Nintek seem to overprice some products and underprice others).

$299AU is great value considering what you are getting.

To put some perspective on it, my Leadtek 6800GT cost me $660AU not long after launch. You are getting roughly the same performance at under half the cost.

you cant directly compare american to aus prices since there are transportation and tariff issues involved. that's actually a good deal in aus.
