Is a 486 fast enough to do IMing?

Im selling an old 486 laptop over in FS/FT and got a question from a potential buyer on how it would handle IMing. Considering I havent used any IM program on anything slower than a K6 I thought I would ask the gurus here.

486 33mhz
12mb Ram
Win95 osr2
540mb hdd

well... what OS can still run on a 486 Ok... maybe if you can find win95 somewhere.. heh.

*edit* ok, just noticed you listed win95.. but 12MB of ram? AIM sucks that much for me already.. even trillian is at 10MB... heh.. good luck.

What type of IM client are you using? I don't think some clients have system requirements that low.

I know that MSN Messenger slows down alot when starting up and opening new conversations and resizing/moving windows. Thats on my 300mhz celly. Site says it reccomends 500mhz.
