I will be ocing my 3200+ venice from 2.0 ghz to 2.5 when it come in the summer and i was wondering will this psu be enough for my system. If not, what psu do you suggest? I want a psu for around 100-150 bucks. Also i kno most of you here would get the Seagate gard drive becuz of their reliability and warranty but should i go with a Seagate 250 Gig 7200.8 or a Hitachi 250 gig SATA 2 hard drive? I want a sata hard drive around 150 bucks thats really good and fast and reliable. I also want a good CD/DVD Drive, Im thinking to go with NEC 3520A but, but i want a really fast cd/dvd drive that can read cds and dvds quick and that can burn them quick without any trouble. Also a Case, im really thinking of going with the PC-65 but there has been some compatability issues with it with some psu's such as the ocz powerstream and modstream. Should i get the PC-65 or get another nig case to go with a good big psu? I want a case around 110-160 bucks.Plz suggest anything for the psu and hard drive cd/dvd drive and case! Thanks!
Heres my upcoming rig: (just an fyi i want everything black, most of my stuff going to be black :) )

Amd Athlon 3200+ Venice (Cpu)
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe (Motherboard)
OCZ El Platinum Rev 2 1 Gig (Ram)
Connect3D X850 XT PCI-E (Video Card)
Razer Diamondback 1600 dpi (Mouse)

the ocz will be fine. i have the same psu powering a similar setup: venice 3000 @ 2.16ghz stock voltage, 6800Ultra agp, 1 raptor & 2 ide seagates, 2 optical drives, m-audio revolution 7.1 pci, 2x512MB pc3200... no problems whatsoever. Great psu for the money :)

They are great PSUs and should be able to handle your system fine as long as you don't start adding 8 more hard drives...

Im only going to have 1 drive. So i decided to go with the 520W Modstream. What about the optical drives? Nec, plextor, lite on? Which one has the best speed and reliability?

You should of got the Powersteam series, they're more about raw power.

Mod stream while still good is mostly for fancy cables.

With all those opticals and hard drives, you'll be using them all.

OCZ 520 powerstream would of been my vote.

Either way, The NEC3520A is what I use and its great.

I also use a Liteon CDRW/DVD-Rom drive.

For a hard drive, go with the Seagate or a Western digital.

Ok so OCZ Powerstream 520W, for optical drive ill go with the NEC 3520A, now for the case and hard drive. Im thinking of just going with the Hitachi 250 gig SATA2, about the case im not sure becuz there has been trouble getting the modstream and powerstream in there. Im thinking of going thermaltake armor. What do you guys think?

I have a ModStream 520w, and it is great. Can't imagine the thing being any quieter unless it was fanless.

Weren't you just calling people morons for recommending a PSU >350W's?

OCZ 420 would be my choice for your system. Most computers cannot even use more than 350 watts even while gaming. BTW, im not sure if the OCZ modstream has adjustable puts or not, but if it does and if you know what your doing then you can increase the voltage quite a bit as in some other PSUs. RAW power? What? Look at the specs for the 420, more than good enough and looks very cool. Dont talk about raw power because your gonna regret buying some overpriced or ugly Antec psu that cost 100+ and doesnt even look nearly as good without moddable wires. This is a good medium of looks and power. BTW, im using it in my system just fine. I checked the voltage in bios and they are all nicely in spec. There was another debate on this before, even with OCing it should be enough, since ur also not running SLI anyways.

Ok so ill go with the OCZ 520 Watt Modstream, i guess it should be enough. But now i have to decide on a case that will fit it with no problems. I wanted the Lian Li PC-65 but i dont think i can install it in there w/o any problems. What case would you guys suggest for a price range around 110-160 dollars?

Yes, that 450W OCZ ModStream (26A 12V rail), is enough for your system spec, but since you'll not be using SLI, why not just get an NF4 Ultra board, such as the ASUS A8N-E.

THAT WAS FOR SOMEONE WITH AN OLD PENTIUM 4 AND GEFORCE4 GFX WHO WANTED TO UPGRADE IN 3 YEARS!!!!

He was better off getting somthing like a 350watt powersupply because future proofing a psu for that long is stupid.

He is wasting his money on somthing more then 400 watts.

This guy has a SLI motherboard, A64, and a top video card.

You do know, in order to SLI the latest nvidia cards (GT,Ultra) you need at least 500 watts.

Even anandtech said that./

You dont need anywhere near 500Watt to run in SLI. There are reports of people running SLI without problems on 350Watt PSU's.

Think about this:
3200+ : ~89 Watt
1 Gig DDR 3200 RAM: ~18 Watt
2x 6800U's: ~80 each= ~160
HDD and Optical Drives: Ill be liberal with this and say ~55 Watt
Other Misc Peripherals: ~20 Watt

That is only 342 Watt and that is max TDP. I dont know anyone who has been able to stress every single component in their system all at the same time. Of course those are rough estimates but i was as liberal as possible.

For how long before it lets go, taking out some expensive things along the way?

I've been there, done that, not interested in a repeat. I tried to run the rig in the sig (rhymes!) with a 430 Watt PSU from a reputable (and loved on this forum), PSU. It let go and was replaced under warranty. It took out a mobo, 1 x 512 RAM when it went. I'd wager that my setup when OC'ed draws some serious juice, so comparing it to an SLI setup is not a bad comparison at all.

You can run a modern TEC cooled rig on a 400 watt PSU. Is it advisable? NOT.
