I am considering buying a acer AL1916A, and it has a 8ms gray to gray response time. Is that any good for gaming? Any assistance is appreciated.

It's not bad but don't go above that speed. Faster would be better but 8ms is good.

I bought a Viewsonic VX922 which is 2ms g2g and it's a nice LCD panel but you have to set the color/brightness/contrast/gamma yourself cause out of the box the image is so so.

EDIT: replaced Slower with Faster.

Yes, 8ms is fine for pretty much anything you'd like to do, including gaming. Also, in response to above. 4ms is faster not slower than 8ms.
