Yeah, a 7300GT is more than enough, especially if you just want to play Heroes 3, I have a 7300GT on my Mac Pro and with some heavy overclocking and some tweaking I can run the latest games just fine.
Even if you don't game a whole lot, unless you are willing to put up with a slide-show in any new game when you DO play, the 7300 isn't going to get it done.
I strongly suggest you spend a little bit more & get a 7600GT instead ... somthing like this EVGA model for $132 before $20 MIR would be ideal:
I don't know how a 7300GS/GT does against a 6800nu (unlocked). But my brother in law plays the latest heroes game and it is a virtual slideshow. It's actually annoying to watch him play it, and even more annoying for him.
7300GS is a weak, bottom-end card. Gaming value is very limited.
7300GT is built around a crippled version of the G71 core also used in the 7600GS and 7600GT, and is strong enough for light gaming at lower resolutions.
The 7300GS and 7300GT are very different cards because they have different cores. I feel NVidia should have used a different number for the 7300GT, such as 7500.
There are models of the 7300GT available in Asia and Europe with high clocks and DDR3 memory, and they are great performers for the price. Leadtek lists such a model for North America, but it could be very hard to find.
If you live in North America, your best bet could be to watch for a heavily discounted 7600GS, as this card (as well as the 7600GT) seem to be quietly discontinued in preparation for the upcoming release of the 7650GS.
I play Heroes 5 on my laptop (Acer 5043, turion ML-34, integrated ati 200 graphics, 2gb of ram) and it plays it pretty good for me. My desktop places it better though and it has an FX5500 256mb card in it, i would think that the 7300GT would play it even better than the FX5500 would.

Heroes 5 is actually quite taxing on a system. I have an overclocked X1800XL (at XT speeds) and it chugs sometimes when I play at 1600x1200.
