Is 70C too hot for my 1700XP?

It should be UNDER 50c. You probably have bad contact the the HSF, or your fan is not running, or your case temp is way too high. What is your case temp ?

1600 runs at 50c idle, and 55c underloads, this is an AGOIA chip from newegg. I'm running a volcano9 on it, 1 intake, 1 exhaust fan. Anything over 65c is too much for me, but I have heard from several other people that Asus probe reads temps higher than they really are as a safegaurd. As long as it's stable and under load at 65c, I wouldn't be too concerned. It is however good to get that temp lower, to extend the life of your chip.

Well I'm using a cheapish HSF, and only a standard thermal pad (I took the plastic cover off 😉). However my case is probably the worst ever produced and has no fans in it at all (or obvious places to put them) so I guess a new case is in order. Anyone got any experience with those Jupiters with the LCD readout?

cheers guys.

Did you o'clock it? My 1700+ TB @1673mhz in a small desktop case were only at 53C at full load. Go get a better HSF.

Are the temps still that high with the side off the case. IF your looking for a good low cost case, that comes with side exhaust, and 350watt psu, HEREis a good place to get that kind of case. I just purchased this case, and put a 1.3 T-Bird in a A7v133 in it last night. I think for the money it's a steal, $32 which includes shipping. I don't think you will be dissapointed in this case, as it has a place for 2 fans up front, 2 in the back, spaces for 4 Hardrives, 2 floppys, and 3or4 cdRoms. Nice spacing and was by far the easiest to work on that I have ever bought for that price. The metal is not very heavy, but is sturdy. I like that, because it's easier to drag to lan parties. IMO this case is better than the inwin I have for my main system.

Yes! Get a couple of case fans and install one in the front to pull air into your case, and one at the rear to pull air out of your case. 70c is way too high, it'll be worse in the hot summertime. I'm running 44C on a 1600xp oc'd to 1900 with just 2 extra fans installed, with a thermaltake heatsink/with ystech fan on my cpu.

these temps are insane... my 1800+ with a gc-68 hs and a vantec stealth fan (which should in theory = worse then stock fan) idles at 42 c and maxes out at 47... your temps are outragous, I'd check the hs

Try putting on the heatsink again. Last time I got that kind of temperatures the heatsink wasn't on properly. What heatsink is it?

70C!?!:Q That's definately way too high. Even in a poorly ventilated case the temp shouldn't go much above 50C, preferably lower.

LOL, yesterday I helped my friend put a 2100+ in his computer. He thought that the HSF he had on his 1700+ would be just fine. After installed I imediately went to the bios, a whopping 81C!!!!

He wondered why he couldn't get it to boot to windblows....lol

Went to the local computer store, and purchased a hsf for a 2200+ and cooled right down to 55c. Good to go!

I have 1 1600+(1.40ghz) @ 1950+(1.63ghz). I have an $8 80cmx80cm 4,500rpm aluminam fan on it. And i have 2 case fans. One came with the case, and the other is a Volcano II 60cmx60cm 5,4000 rpm that I disconnected from the hsf and attatched it to the back of my case. IN any case, right now I'm playing mp3's brownsing internet i have 44 degrees celcius. Under full load in a hot room I've seen it go up to 56 celcius. Not bad for such a cheap HSF and good overclock!

Just wondering, maybe I should put a fan in my case... 😛

Yeah....along with everyone else...I'd say that is way too high... :Q

I have a 1700 running right now with a stock HSF (w/ the thermal tape...no AS3 or anything) and I haven't seen it go over 42C even with a really heavy load. Only running the CPU fan and 1 80mm front intake fan. I also have an Athlon 1.2 Tbird that used to run pretty hot. It was about 125F until I added a rear case fan. That dropped it to 107F which is still probably a little high but nowhere near dangerous.

Good luck!
Tom
