Is .7 megapixels worth $200?

I'm thinking of buying a digital camera ...

I really like what I've read about the Sony's ... and I found this spread on their site: here

Question is ... the DSC-S75 = 3.34MP ... and the DSC-S85 = 4.1MP ... the price difference is $200 ...

I won't be getting another camera for a LONG ass time ... but do you think $200 is worth it for the extra? I'm leaning towards hell the fvck no ... but I figure one of you may know the real deal ...

I looked in detail at the specs on the only difference besides the CCD is that the newer one can take "bursts" of 3 frames as opposed to the older's 2.

Definitely not worth $200 for that .7MP, IMO.

it may be a sony, but that's all you may be paying for. I'm not a sony fan to begin with, and there are better cameras with higher specs for that price.

HOLY SHITE!

DSC-S85 for $489!!!!

It can't be true ... there has to be some hella dirt on these guys or something ... that's over $100 less than I've seen it on other "questionable" sites!!!

bmacd - Hit me ... show me some links if you've got em (I'm open to anything really, and I realize that sony tacks on some bucks for the name, but their products are indeed good quality)

there aint much different at all in the features.. twice as big a memory stick.. but 8 and 16 are both small.. spend teh 200 less on teh 3.34.. and with the 200 bucks u got extra, get a huge memory stick, and a nice bag

yeah, its expensive. dunno if I would have bought it with my own money or not, but I recieved it as a gift. G1's nice but G2 is vastly improved compared to it. You can pick up a G1 cheap but there are many problems with it and I'd personally avoid it.

nah, I wouldn't pay that much for .7 megapixels. I think I may be getting a Canon digicam soon...

it's not just the MP rating. check the reviews over at dpreview and steves. I don't know if there's anything in particular that sets out the sony's, but sometimes, it may well be worth the investment. It also really depends on if any extra features it does have are worth it to you or not.

We've already established that the only differences other than the CCD are a 1 frame addition to the burst mode and an 8 meg larger memory card.

Still waiting for -=bmacd=- to post the list of "better cameras with higher specs for that price." ...and waiting. ...and waiting. ...and waiting... :frown:

I'd say no....

but it of course depends on if you'll be doing anything larger than 11X17 enlargements

<<A more important consideration is print size. You can send your digital photographs to Internet-based photo services if you want traditional paper-based prints, which is nice. But your camera's resolution limits your ability to enlarge these prints past 5 x 7. As a rule of thumb, a 2.1MPX camera can generate high-quality 8 x 10 enlargements and a 3.1MPX camera can produce 11 x 17 enlargements. So, depending on your needs, you might be able to save money by purchasing a lower-end camera if you don't need to make enlargements. >>

"That link is $620 plus shipping..."

BUMMER! That explains the $699.00 price on their web site.

I'll take the lowest price I can find to Sears and get a price match from them. I was hoping it would be under $400.00 by now, so I wasn't too surprised by that $485.00 package price.

Hell, maybe I won't buy it at all, since good old -=bmacd=- is going to link us to some other awesome deals...

welcome back Ornery my friend. i must admit i misread the title and drew a conclusion faster than i had to parse the rest of the info in the original post. I read "Is .7 megapixels worth $200?" and thought you were looking at a .7mp camera for $200.

I apologize to Billy777 and my most bestest friend Ornery

I goofed...get over it.

-=bmacd-=

edit: BTW Billy7777:why don't you have PMs enabled?
