Is 65C bad? :) My temperature woes worsen....

Ok, im sure ya'll have heard my complainin about my system temps... But i think its going down the tubes...

These are my specs:

Asus A7A266
Athlon 1.2
Antec 282 w/2 case fans (front in, rear out)
Global Win WBK-38 w/92mm Panaflo L

My temps are THROUGH THE ROOF today... Im relatively idle right now too, my air conditioning isnt working well and i live in Florida. Im thinking about going to the HHC-001 but i cant take another 7000 rpm one. What can i do??

I dont recall your other posts about your temps but without too much info about your issue I am not sure where you should start. First is your room really hot? If so your ambient case temps will be hot and that will bring up CPU temps. But then again my daughters PC is running at 58c full load and has zero problems with a T-bird 1.2 so i guess as long as you are running stable, I wouldn't stress over it.

last time i see you still on 59c
it sure get hot pretty quick in florida this week and you don't have AC neither

did you open your case.. try to put some artic silver
check maybe your fan ront running properly..
if it still didn't make it cool down than i don't know what else.

a year ago i have gigabyte GA7-ZX w/ KT133 Athlon 1.2 that also on 61-64C
but everything is stable i still dunno what happened til i sell the mobo to my friend
he use the mobo with duron 750 and the temp is 57[ still high for a duron]
but he said everything is as stable as he can get...

may be you just get mobo that create heat more than the others

peace

Well, its relatively stable... But when i use any games, im afraid im gonna break something. I mean im runnin 65C idle! Not to mention the LOUD SCREACHING that comes from my Digital Doc 5 when i use my computer for anything besides posting here....

<< I wouldn't stress over it. >>

I disagree...

[/i]Athlon 1.2
Antec 282 w/2 case fans (front in, rear out)
Global Win WBK-38 w/92mm Panaflo L [/i]

You've got a decent case, a couple of fans and a good and HSF - your temps shouldn't be that high. You sure the heatsink is seated properly?

i *think* so, it seems to be seated the same as it was when i was getting 48C a few months ago. QUick question about the HHC-001... All i hear about is people lapping it, welp, i dont have anything to do that with. So is it bad if i dont??

I wouldn't run with a temp of 65C loaded, let alone 65C idle.

Pull the board and carefully dismount the cooler, clean surfaces, re-apply grease and remount the cooler. I suggest pulling the board for this simply because you can carefully inspect the heatsink for correct alignment and flush-mounting of the heatsink - which I suspect is your basic problem. 65C idle is ridiculous. I think I could stop the fan on my cooler and stay below 65C at cpu idle.

Also, if your board temperature is more than a few degrees above ambient room temp, your case is not efficiently moving air through the case.

The best combination of price/effectiveness in an air-cooled heatsink/fan that I know of is the Alpha 8045U with low-noise Delta fan included for about $50. If that cooler is not compatible with your board, there are other hs/fan combos that efficiently cool without a screaming fan. Read the current reviews.

I have a case with 2 80mm fans extracting and an Alpha 8045U on an amd XP1600@148MHz FSB and have never seen a loaded temp over 41C.

<< Currently, my case temp is 90C >>

90c case temp!?!?!?!?!?! Either it is REALLY hot in your room, or you have some funky readings going on. This is why I say that if your stable to not stress, because motherboard readings are WRONG! If you want to be safe, pick up an LCD thermal probe. You can get one like this from Newegg for $22 and change shipped. This will give you more accurate temp readings, not 100% but close.

Well i have a Digital Doc 5 also, but im not sure how close my probe is to the core. Its reading 121.6F right now, but it goes over 125 (and sets off its alarm) regularly. It sucks living in Florida sometimes because of the heat, my house temp is 79 and is dropping because the air conditioning is fixed now...

And all the readings from around the case are in the 90's as well on the DigiDoc5....

The 65C temp is that from your DigiDoc? And you mounted the probe by the cpu I guess (if it isn't near the cpu I would be even more worried about those temps!), the probe doesn't interfere with the heat going from the cpu to the hsf?
You sure the case temp is 90C, I cannot believe that, then the cpu tmep would be around 100C not 65, and your cpu would be very, very bad then.

Ok then I would recommend taking the HS off of the chip and making sure that the probe is not between then HS and the core. I used a small little piece of electrical tape to insure that when I mounted my LCD probe that I was right next to the slug and not on it. Now that you have your air fixed. You need to work on airflow inside the case. Make sure you have an intake and an exhaust. When you take off the heatsink make sure to reapply some ASII and make sure you use an ultra thin layer!!!! Man other than that I am not quite sure what else you can do.

Although looking at your HS, are you using a fan adapter for that? This could be part of the issue. You may try putting the stock fan on and boot to see what your temps look like with it. Keep your hand on the power cord that way if they rocket up you can yank the power before a melt down happens.

The 65C reading is from my motherboards own cpu temp reader.

im an idiot, my case temp is 90F, my bad stupid typo 🙂 🙂 🙂

You Use Asus Probe for the reading right???
did you try to use somethin else.. MBM5 may be..?
I mean if asus probe, mbm and the Digital Doc has the same reading
then it supposed to be right.

I agree that you must pull out everything and double check it.

I built some mobo with ASUS before, the temp is always higher than average mobo i know
eventhough it never reach 59C i believe last time i install Athlon 1.4(266) on a7v133 the
temp reading was 53C idle - 57C heavy loaded

btw/ your Passat is coller than your CPU...

Good luck with the experiment

peace

If you have enough space around the socket for it, I highly recommend the Alpha PAL8045. It's an 80mm heatsink, so it might not fit. I get temps in the high 30's-low 40's C with a low-noise fan.

Naaa the Alpha Pal wont fit on my mobo, already looked into it 🙁

I think im gonna take my whole computer apart tonight and redo it all... Maybe put my fan on suck 🙂

thanks about the car too 🙂

Ok welp... Heres my temporary solution...

I took everything apart. Cleaned the cpu off, applied a new "non-crusty" layer of ASII, put my old delta screamer back on the WBK-38, and put it all back in... Im idling at 47-48C and my case temps are around 28C. I cant live too long with this fan though, im already getting sick of the whine again...

So.... All that being said, what are my solutions? Alpha 8045 wont fit my mobo.

So that leaves me with...

HHC-001 is definately a possibility (if i could change the fan out without hurting temps too much)
GC68
or
Sk-6

What do ya'll reccomend??

Well it looks like your adapter fan combo was the culprit! I have seen pics in here not too long ago with an SK-6 and an 80mm fan. I guess the guy attached the fan kinda crooked to use the clips to attach to the corners of the fan. Said it worked great. I use the 8045 so I have no clue about those other heatsinks. Also maybe do a search for the heatpipe, have read good things on that as well. Anyway glad your not frying your chip anymore....cheers!

What did you say? Its hard to hear you over the sound of the delta... 🙂

Thank you though... Im open to any/all reccomendations 🙂

Go with a Copper+Aluminium HSF if possible.

At the worst case, get yourself a big ass fan that you use to cool yourself. Open the case and direct air flow in there. 😀
