Is 5700 Ultra bottlenecking my rig?

I don't play games much but just acquired HL2 and Farcry. So I'd like to play these games to see why others keep talking about them. Basically I want to see all eyecandies as much as possible. (no DX9 in HL2)

What's the best budget upgrade for my video ?

My setup:
AMD64 3000 at 2.43ghz
MSI Neo2 Platinum
2 GB PC3200 (1 GB x 2)
PNY 5700 Ultra

in your case, i would go for 9800 PRO or 6600GT for ~$200

6800 is not a bad choice neither

A 5700 Ultra was bottlenecking a friend's XP 2600+ system. It's putting a stranglehold on your A64.

Somehow, yes just doen't seem like a strong enough answer. That rig deserves a delicious 6800GT dropped in it.

I had the same card, and overclocked it to the extreme, it still bottlenecked me. I upgraded to a 9700 Pro, and absolutely love it, if I were you i'd get a 6600GT AGP.

6600 GT and 6800 are better choices, but its only money 🙂 (hopefully you're looking at a 6600 GT right about now, MSI has a really nice one by the way 😀 )newegg.com
