is 56/57C safe for p4 2.53 at 2.85 full load??

Asus p4B533-E
p4 2.53 at 2.85 at 1.60v (1.65 idle, 1.6 load or so)
retail HS, AS3(only been on for 2 days)
and ram at DDR400

Shows 56C on prime95, and was 57 after some gaming....is this a safe temp?

thats a bit too hot.
my system maxes out at 47*C in prime95 by comparison.

do you have any case cooling?
exaust fans are a must when OCing P4s.

HTH :)

For an Asus mobo, which is notoriously lower temps then majority of other motherboards it seems hot....

That temp would be like mid 60's on abit, MSI, and epox mobo....

Overall it is probably safe...

Warm there today??

Whay is system temp like??

What is state of case cooling....

AS3 will cure a bit but not much then 1-2c likely....

What is your HSF??? Blowing or sucking by the fan??

about 75F or 23C in house probally a few degrees warmer in my room
Cases is in an under desk cabinient with front door fully open, I may need to cut out back more, it's open to back halfway up, then there is wood from there up.
Case is around 38C

Antec 1080plus case, with 1 fan added
1 front intake fan blowing between 2 7200 HDs
1 side intake fan blowing towards graphics card
2 exhaust fans on back
and power supply

It definitely appears to be a case cooling issue....Pull the case out and take side off and report the temps...The heat is obviously not being able to escape properly and you may have positive pressure which may be compressing tjhe air and thus compressed air is warmer....

moved the case to where air will circulate better, and came down 50mhz/ .025volts to 2793
full load temp is 52C now, case temp went down to 32,but have't tried gaming yet(gpu heat), that seem decent until i get a better a better heatsink, or still too high?

ONe part of the problem could be the side intake fan is blowing the heat onto the mobo and likely over the northbridge chipset where the system temp is taken...that heat is also blown across the base of the heatsink...

May want to reverse that fan to exhaust heat away from the mobo altogether...

On the P4B533V BIOS, there's a setting for the fan to go full speed. However, that only makes it go about 2900rpm for me. I wonder why it doesn't go its true max. I've seen it go up to 3400 before (on a really hot day and prime95). Strange.. I'm tempted to try this mod, but the weather is cooling down and I don't need it to be cooler.

Hmm those temps are waaaay to hot for a p4 . SHould get around 35 - 42c.

I reckon it's just the mobo reading the temp wrong. Or maybe there is a cooling problem

Is that under load or idle?

I have a 2.26B ---> 2.55 @ 150fsb with 1.6v core
Case temp: 28C
Idle temp: 42C
Load: 52-55C

Using a Thermalright AX478+Sunon 50CFM fan blowing into the heatsink, antec 1080plus case 2 80mm intake, 2 80mm exhaust and a side fan blowing cold air in as mentioned before.

Load

My P4 runs at 40c load and my athlon 2200+ runs at 36c load, which I find surprising since athlons should be hotter =)

I can not believe, that your athlon 2200+ is running at 36C at full load. Something must be wrong with the temperatur readings. I just read through the test of 55 AMD coolers on THG (ok it was on a simulator), it seems to be difficult to get the CPU below 50C under full load.

read this:

THG AMD cooler test

my athlon 1.4 @ 1.567 runs at 50C full load...used to run at 45C full load where I lived the last two years before I moved (electricity was included in our rent...but not anymore...hence a major cutdown on A/C).

Duvie, can you expand more on the issue of positive pressure? does that mean you have too much air coming in and not enough going out? or does it mean that you have too little coming in and a lot going out?

I also have the ANtec 1080B (wonderful case btw...love the black/charcoal color), with teh side intkae fan, two inlet fans and 2 exhuast fans. along with a overclocked ti300 (which probably doesn't help for heat issues), I would think the side fan would actually help in my case. why?, becasue my heatsink fan (a loud a$$ 60mm 50.5cfm delta fan), blows on to the heatsink so the side fan brings cool air from outside and goes right to the heatsink fan which blows on the cpu...when I have time I'll try reversing it to see if system temps go up or down (it's gonna be a PIA walking by teh side of my case though!!!).

Nope temp readings are correct, I was skeptical at first, but I tried various different mobs, got around the same temp..Reason I think Ive got it so cool is cause I got 3 case fans plus a Volcano 9 which are awesome. Look up volcano9 reviews at overclockerscafe.com on there shows what temps it gets..

I had a standard boxed h/s fan before I got my volcano9 and extra 2 case fans and my temp was at around 48c idle - 55c load.

Hmmm,

if you have done all these tests it is probably correct, but I am really surprised, because it does not really fit to all the tests.

But anyway, be happy to have such a cool Athlon...

RageATM,

I tried Duvie's suggestion of reversing the fan and temps went up, may vary on your system though.

I have it at 2.8ghz at 51-52C full load now, At the end of the month when Newegg gets them in I'll get an alpha heatsink and see about running at 3gig or so.

that doesn't suprise me...some heatsinks are made to be blown on (or blown away from)...too bad liquid nitrogen is so freakin expensive :D

maybe it's time for water cooling?
