Its within safe limits.

Higher than I recommend though, espically for a P4.

i was gonna say thats a little high for p4's, but eh, as long as its stable i guess your fine.

i try to stay under 50c and i run AMD's, think my xp1600+ loads out at about 48c max, usually in windows it never goes over 44c.

I just got a 2.4b @ 3.05 ghz running at about 52C full load... RETAIL heatsink and fan.

Thats 167 FSB... Passed at Prime 95 and a 2 hour loop of 3dmark...

:)

Sorry to butt in (but I will anyway:D), but is 27-30 degrees C a good idle temperature for a Pentium 3 500MHz?

Hey man, whats your MOBO temp? This is the rule: if your mobo temp is above 29-31 degrees, you should consider exhaust intake fans - your case is too hot. My mobo is at 27 degrees, hence the CASE gets ventilated = CPU gets enough cool air.

bjc 112, tell me how do you manage to keep the temperature so low because i have the same processor overclocked at 2.93 (1.60V), the original cooler and i have a temperature of 60C in full load. As you noticed probably the cooler is controlled by the MB so i put the cooler on the directly powersource but i still have 56-58C in full load. Even not overclocked i have a temperature of 52-55C in full load. Any ideas? Tnx.

The room temperature makes a HUGE difference. My CPU was running fine until the first really hot day of the year came around, and it went from a max of ~53-55C to a max of 60C+. The thing is, it really wasn't THAT hot, not even enough to warrant turning on the AC. I went out and got a new HSF and arctic silver 3, which btw had better start working better after that 72 hour period, and my temps are below 50.

Motherboards all report temps differently. Some are HIGHLY INACCURATE!! The last two I've owned don't report temps even close to accurate. Never compare temps on two different models of mobos. Its not a valid comparison.

NYHoustonman, I'm on the same boat as you. There is just not enough air in my room! Most of the time my AMD runs about 48c-52c idle! And around 58-60c loaded while playing games. I just orderd a volcano 11 cause the stock HSF's that come with these things suck.

I still don't know how these people have their AMD's running around 28c without dry ice or water cooling.

Either that or this ABS 2 crap is giving me false readings.

If you areusing the Retail heatsink and fan, be sure to remove the black adhesive with credit card or somethng of that type...

Use some acteon to remove it, throw on some artic silver and you will be good to go...

Should drop temps about 5-10 degrees...

Good Luck...

:D

CPU temps are indirectly related to case temps. If your case temp is in the high 90's (F), then you can lower your CPU temps quite a bit by improving case cooling by bringing it closer to room ambient.

Also lower your voltage by 5% if everything is stable...

Yea, that is kind of odd, that people can have their processors running close to room temp...Or even below...without water cooling or anything. Oh well, not my problem.

When idle mine runs 29C.. 38 full load. I guess thats what I get for being in the basement all the time (So nice and cool)

Very nice temps... Overclocked? No way its the retail / heatsink fan?

2.4 @ 3.2 with a swiftech MCX4000

Edit: As I said though, in my basement its nice and cool, so ambient temp is quite low.

You guys dont get it. Motherboard CPU temp readings ARE NOT ACCURATE! Every board is different.

My present mobo Abit IC7 shows my P4 @ 3.06 as 47C idle. My last board, Albatron PX845PEV showed same CPU/HS/Fan as 17C idle. These are two extremes, but its to prove a point.

Comparing your Asus to his Abit to her EPoX mobo does not mean a thing.

Unless you are comparing same mobo model with the same BIOS and same ambient temp, comparing CPU temps is a waste of time.

If you really want low CPU temps, get the Albatron mobo!

old fart is right, mobo temps are not accurate, but they are there to give you an idea of whats going on under the hood. the best way to tell if its too hot is to feel the heatsink while its under load. if its really hot to the touch, you know you got problems. if its warm your fine! and final comment, any temp that hits 60 and above is hot for any mobo!

Ok guys, i think i solved the problem. I bought a thermaltake P4 spark 7 (all cooper) and my temperature is now 44C in normal load (idle) and in full load is 54 C (after 1 hour of UT2003) this at 2300 rpm minimum for this cooler (my room temperature is 25C-29C). At 6400rpm i have 48C in full load but you cannot stay in the same room with the cooler for long :). I put the proccesor at 2.91 with 1.550V and agressive timings to memory. I have an Epox 4BEA2 and a 2.4B, 533Mhz, 512MB (2x256), Radeon 8500LE (250Mhz/500Mhz), 80 Gb Seagate B. IV. And zShowtimez please tell me how did you manage to overclock your processor that high??, mine works at max 2.93Ghz with a voltage of 1.60 should i raise it more?

My case stays at room temp... guess that means I have adequate case cooling? =)

Just wanted to let you all know I got pctoys quietmax 6500 HSF and now my temps 43C at load with prime95 torture test running in background for 2hr+. That's just 10C higher then motherboard temp. I used some arctic silver thermal compound but it is supposed to work better 24to48hrs after it is applied. So who knows how much it will drop. I got my pc upstairs and it is always hot up here
