Is 52 degrees too hot for a P3 running at 1.7v?

It's starting to get warm here in Vermont... my P3 750 is running with a gorb at about 53 degrees Celcius.. is this too hot? Time to bump it down?

Geoff

Well... put it down to 133fsb@default (1.65v) and it's running at 50 degrees now... time to look into better cooling methinks!

Geoff

Warm in Vermont? You've got to be kidding me! How come it was never warm when I was there.....(18 years 😛 ). For what it's worth, the die tolerance should be 80 C (unoverclocked @ defaultv).

Gorb is the problem, I got one awhile back, it doesn't cool for sh.t, sorry to say.

Your temps should drop considerably with a better cooling setup.

Actually the GOrb cools just fine. I notice no temp change when I went from my $10 Gorb to my $30 Thermo-engine. Your temp is fine, 53 degrees is nothing on a P3.

Yeah your temp is fine, if it gets unstable then you might worry, but have heard of higher temps (10-15C higher) running just fine. By the way, what was you running it at before you bumped it down?

Only other suggestion I would have is to increase case circulation, but unless your unstable I wouldn't fret it.

You could change to a Swiftech heatsink.................😀 J/K

..........edit...........
You could also PM Mikewarrior2, he knows his stuff and he runs Intels so I am sure his knowledge probably goes well into expert level there.

I hope that isn't @idle..
either way, that's high for a p3....you can do better. Your voltage is almost default.
How high over your system temps is that p3? If your system is 9-10c lower...I can see that...below that, maybe better cooling on the cpu is in order. The heatsink is seated well.....right?

I'm sure that is not an idle temp, betcha RC5 is running 😉. 53C is OK for a PIII, I wouldn't worry.

Geoff,
I run my PIII 700@1000 all day long around those temps. I had to bump the V up to 2.05 :|, but Ive ran it like this for several months. Havnt had a problem with it yet. Im using a PEP66. Im sure you could sqeeez a bit more cooling from a better HS/F, but your ok running at 50-55c IMO.

It's a little warm compared to my 866's that run around 45-50 degrees each depending on the weather and such. We keep the AC turned down low in our place so it helps with cooling. I've got GOrbs too. I wouldn't worry about it though, just start worrying if they hit 60-65 range...

Geoffs get a copper HS ok. I use a GLADIATOR/DELTA/ASII. Is that @idle or @load? Regardless u need better COOLING that temp to me is not "NORMAL". Make ur case COOLER as well(add fans). If ur in a room with a temp of maybe 40-45c(104-114F) which i doubt yes u would get those temps. So it isn't normal. Make sure HS is seated correctly.

P!!!800@1GHZ 1.7v CCO
OCZ GLADIATOR/DELTA/ASII

ROOM @25c
IDLE @31c
LOAD @38c
CASE @24c

This is "NORMAL" for me and have no problems.

Hey LASHER555ZX..

How do you get Case Temp < Room Temp with AIR Cooling...

I thought that was impossible...

Run RC5 Or Seti@Home for Team AnandTech
That way you won't have any temp differeces to worry about, only max temp.

Well, w/ an Alpha P3125,on a Pentium 3 750 running at 930mhz @ 1.85 volts. My temps are 30-35 Celsius under load and 20-25 idle.
