Is 50° C too hot for Duron 600?

This is the temp I get when I run my Duron 600@ 600 or 700, on an Abit KT7 with FOP-32-1. Right now, with it @600, the VIA HWM program shows it running at 50° C, with the system temp at 19°. The FOP-32-1 is installed with the included thermal pad. I think this is too hot, I would like to get it up to 850-900. Is there something I should check or do? Thanks

Well, technically it's not too hot as of now, but if you overclocked it anymore it would probably be. Even though AMD says it can't get to 90 C, it is better for it not to get over 60 C. Most people prefer it to be around 50 C, or less. It is running a little hotter than normal. My 700 Duron is running at 1000, and it is usually at about 50 C with a TaiSol HSF.

My Taisol heatsink/fan is normally at 41-43C(CPU) with a Thunderbird 900mhz & two 80mm Sunon fans never goes over 46C on heavy gaming.You could try some case fans.

I've got two rear case fans blowing out and two front fans blowing in. The case temp is quite chilly, I believe, at 19°C. I would think that a HSF as good as the FOP-32-1 (although not the best) would get the temp lower than this. Could something be wrong with the fan, or is the thermal pad that bad of a conductor?

If you have no lockups or stability problems don`t worry about it,or try some Artic silver thermal paste,you will have to remove the old stuff first & apply a very thin even layer.

i wouldn't use the thermal pad. if you get some thermal compoud(even the radio shack stuff) it'll drop a few degrees

weird.........my 600 duron is only 35-40C, but my system temp is usually 23-26C...........hmmmm
btw, im using a coolermaster HSF
guess its working fine then

not to insult you or anything but did you take of the blue plastic... there are two plastic covers over the pink heat pad.... i think you might have forgoten the second one

I am using a thermal pad, that is why I have slightly higher temps with my TaiSol. I actually have 45C idle, and 52C FULL load.

Hmm, I'm fairly certain I did remove the plastic. To be sure, I'll check it, but boy are those clips hard to get on!

I'm running a Duron 700, on an Abit KT7 Raid in an SX830 (with only 1 fan in front, and the 2 stock rear fans) with a FOP32-1. After playing Diablo 2 for 4-6 hours I have a temp of about 40C for the CPU.

That cpu "temp" measurement can't be trusted. It uses a thermistor underneath the socket to measure the "air underneath the CPU". Even in cases wehre people have bent it up to touch the cpu, it is still only touching substrate. As long as the cpu runs, then its great. But comparing CPU Temps off socket A cpu's is a very inaccurate thing.

My Duron 600@915 runs at 46 idle and up to 51 after quake3 using the hsf that came with the cpu. Hopefully this isn't too hot?

65 Celcius on my T-bird 800@850Mhz (1.85v) with normal HSF. Is it okie? Do you think I should get a Globalwin FOP32 with artic siver on it? I'm planning to hit 900Mhz real soon. Need help. How to know if it's a blue processor and not a green one? I got my processor 4 weeks ago.

Another thing, where do I get relatively good and cheap Heatsick with fan. My budget is about 20-25 bucks. I heard that the Glodbalwin FOP32 is VERY and I mean VERY hard to put on and once you have it on, you would not take it off for the rest of your lives??

Thanks joeyd! I checked, and I did leave the blue plastic on. After taking it off, my Duron 600@850 is 35°C. MUCH better. Starting to crack RC5, getting 3MKeys/s, is this about right?

as long as it is running stable, i wouldn't worry about it. Durons/T-birds are rated to go up to 90C.

The main problem is in comparing cpu temps and believing that those numbers are actual cpu core temp. They are far too inaccurate(even if they are compensated with a bios revision) because it doesn't measure the quick changes in temperature(ie going from complete idle to rc5).

And then you have issue of where the thermistor is... let's say each person bent it upwards, but it was contacting a different part of the chip substrate... well, the substrate underneath actual cpu core is going ot be a bit warmer than if it were touching substrate underneath the l2 cache. This just leads to more inaccuracies when comparing socket A cpu temps.
