Well now that this thread has been crapped all over
/thread close
nothing new coming out for SLR 4/3.
I agree..."photo engineers" would keep on and one discussion about cameras...
Dude, stop with the e-peen. The OP's question was about photographic technology. He got answers discussing photographic technology.
The "how to be a better photographer" discussion is completely separate. It's quite tiresome to hear "the camera doesn't matter" over and over again.... if that's so, then why don't you sell your DSLR and buy a little $100 P&S?
Notice, AnandTech is a tech site, and this is a technical forum, just look at the name of it: "Digital and Video Cameras"! "Cameras", not "Photography" or "Photo Technique" or "Who can take better pictures".... CAMERAS. I.e., hardware.
Anandtech is far from just a tech site on it's forums.
I get that, but look at the forum categories: "Social" is where OT, P&N, L&R, etc. live. FS/FT and HD are in "Merchandise and Shopping". The rest of the forum categories and forum names, are technology oriented.
Plus, the OP's original question (look at the name of the thread) specifically asked about camera technology. It did not ask how to take better photos. It did not ask anything about artistry, or the ability to win photo contests. And this guy has the nerve to say "some people would rather talk about cameras" and some nonsensical thing about balls.... come on. Put your e-peen back in your pants, nobody wants to look at it.

It's not about epeen like your signature tries to prove.
This is the only photag area of the forums.
My e-peen can't fit in my pants.
Just sayin'
First off, I wasn't directing any comments at you. Secondly, LOL, did you see the post above where he whipped out his gallery of photos that he put into competitions on dpreview?

Please, tell me in what universe is that not an e-peen move?
And lastly, my sig lists gear that is on average pretty old. 2006 Mac Pro, 2005 PC, 2005 5D. Only thing somewhat recent is my MBP which is 2 years old now. Main point of listing that stuff is to show people that I at least have some idea what I'm talking about. A lot of people ask about specific lenses, and it's handy for people to know that I either own a particular lens or one comparable to what they're asking about. So many times you find people on photography sites who recommend lens X or Y, when they have never used it, much less owned it. Doesn't mean they don't have a valid opinion, but there's always more authenticity when someone has actually plunked down their own money for an item, whether it's a video card, a DSLR, a car, or a smartphone.

Im wanting to buy a starter camera for my wife to play with. I can get a decent setup with lenses and body and extras for around $50 Im just noting to put out $300 to $600 on a dslr and her not use it.

It's a forum for people...some do know what they're talking about, so - don't...
I do know, that some can not "google themselves" to a forums/sites where they could get better answers - let's say about Photography: dpreview...Video: videohelp.com.....
Please explain to us what a "better answer" is?
If someone asks "what camera should I buy?" and everyone just responds and says "the camera doesn't matter", how much help did you provide the person? The person still has no clue what camera to pick...
The OP asked a question about cameras, and we all provided our opinions. The OP read our opinions, made his own decision, and is happy with it so far. What more could you ask for, besides asking for trolls such as yourself to stop derailing threads?
35mm is definitely obselete, 22nm is where its at.
Phffft.... 4.5mm or bust! Yes Sigma has a 4.5mm
Let's compare...This is "chart" of mine camera
I'm pretty satisfied considering I'm an amateur and photo hobbyist...
Now, post your "chart"...not someone else, but YOURS - YOUR OWN Photo's...taken by camera you have...
And we might have something to compare...

I agree that OM made some damn fine cameras such as the awesome OM-1 & OM-2. For me, I would love to get my hands on a KOWA SET-R or KOWA SET-R2.35mm Film is not obsolete and has some appeal. Google "lomography", at least it'll be interesting reading. If I were getting a starter 35mm film camera I would get a refurbished Olympus Trip 35.
