Is 350W enough?

I plan on building this system:

xp333-r,1800+,256 kingmax 2700 (will get more tho), 32x10x40 cdrw, will add dvd later, viper 2 (will upgrade to ti200), etc.

is 350w psu enough for this system or should i get a 400w one?

350 is more than enough, only consider getting more than 300 watts when you have more than 3 harddrives or cd-rom drives...

I disagree with the 300W sugestion. For hardware like that, I would definatly say 350W. 300 is pushing it. It would probably work, but once you added anything then yu would have to buy another PSU to handle it all.

I use an Antec 300W (pp303XP - the new 300W PS) with my XP1800+. Stable as a rock for a month now!

if 300 is pushing it, my psu must be dying or something:

My comp specs:
16x10x40 burner
16x dvd
256 sdram
gf3 ti200
intel mobo
p3 600 mhz
27 gb hd

all running at 46 idle, 50 load with door closed, no cpu fan, and 2 case fans...and a 250 watt psu... =|
Thats okay right?

It depends on the specific powersupply.

For the most part, total wattage doesn't matter.

What matters is if the supply can provide the required amperage on the 5-volt and 3.3-volt rails. A few so-called 300-watt supplies can provide what AMD suggests/requires on those rails, many cannot. It all depends on the brand.

There are some cheap 400+ watt supplies out there that can provide tons of amperage on the 12-volt line but no where near what a fast Athlon needs on the other rails.

If a 300W supply provides what your processor needs and you don't have more than 3-4 hard drives (CD-ROMs really don't matter), you're fine.
