Hey,

I have a question for those who are in or have completed college. In my sophomore year in the first semester I have a 3.83 GPA. Will this affect my chance of getting into a good college? Thanks!

Are you in college right now? If so, major? Define the field and your level of "good"....

A 3.83 out of 4.00 is high.

I don't think it makes much difference, though. My GPA when I graduated from college was higher than that and it hasn't helped me get a job.

My GPA was horrid in high school and I still got in college. Didn't even take the SAT. It is all a scam. College won't help you either. Go out and be a bum like 80% of the population who has it all figured out!!!

That's very good and you should be proud of your progress so far. Maintain that and you should have no problem getting into the colleges of your choice

That said, I graduated from UCLA with Corporate Thug in 2005. He had a 4.0+ high school GPA, and I had a 3.0 GPA in high school.

So let me get this right, you're smart enough to get a 3.83 but not smart enough to figure out if it's good? You do fail at life.

Smart enough to get a 3.8, dumb enough to not know that is good.

Which basically makes you dumb. Just skip college.

Edit: oops, beat to it.

Alot of schools offer Advanced Placement classes (may go by a different name) where you get an extra point on your GPA. So technically a 5.0 is the max.

Depends where you want to go... the sad reality of it is that a 4.0 GPA just isn't amazing anymore. It isn't uncommon for people to have 4.0+ GPAs. I'll let you know in a few months how a 3.8 GPA worked out for me when I get my college acceptance (or not) letters.

It depends. If you get a 3.8GPA and have nothing else to put on your application then it may not be enough.

sounds like OP is in high school in which case, yeah...you need better than 4.0 to get in anywhere competitive these days...

I'm sure he knows it's good, he just wants ATOT to reaffirm that and make him feel special.

Let us remember that a person's GPA represents nothing more than the grades they received. Several of my classmates graduated with a 4.0 despite being dumb as hell. High school really is a joke.

Some advice for the OP: good grades alone won't be enough to get you into any college you'd like. Extracurriculars and test scores weigh heavily in most schools' decisions as well. According to a recruiter for a Fortune-500 company in my town, he is unlikely to hire applicants who went through college with a 4.0 because he thinks they may lack the social skills and attitude to fit in with some aspects of company culture.

Depends on which program you are applying for, which state you are in, how well you do on SATs/ACTs and if you are lucky or not.

True. The cutoff for the top 10% at my high school was 4.45.

GPA is relative to the quality of the HS. The HS i went to was so easy, 4.0 was the minimum for schools like ucla or ucb to even sniff at your application.
