Q6600 is cheaper and overclock just as well. I missed a clearance several months back on Q6600 for less than $200.

I'm more excited about the Q9450 with its 8x multi, 12mb cache, and $50 price permium![]()

I'm sure the Q9450 will be jacked up in price on NewEgg and some other etailers until the hype dies down.

MSRP $316...
January launch.
That's what I've been waiting on, not the Q6600.

... except that's not the MSRP
That's the price if you buy 1,000 OEM chips directly from Intel![]()
I don't think he would have any trouble acquiring all 1,000 of those OEM chips himself ...Originally posted by: thejez

So back to the quesiton at hand. Should I go for that chip. I'm not made of money and am tieing myself into a tight budget.. Since I have to upgrade ram, mobo, graphics card, maybe a hard drive.

WHAT??? The penryn equivalent to Q6600 will be 2.5 ghz with 6mb of cache instead of 2.4 ghz with 8mb cache. they should be very close in performance, but I would give a very slight nod to the penryn due to the minor arch advancements and 100mhz clock advantage. Oh, and the msrp will be 266 on the Q9300 or Q9330 or whatever then end up calling it, so it will be priced identically at launch.

Oh, don't forget about the significantly improved power consumption/heat dissipation for penryn, which should also translate into better overclocking.
