hi,
i bought a cheap Aopen case today with a 250 watts power supply and i'm going to upgrade to following config.:
xp 1800
MSI Kt3 Ultra
Radeon 8500LE or G3 Ti200
30.8 WD HD @ 5400 RPM
24/12/40 QPS buner
4x CD-ROM (my new one exploded...literally)
a person suggested that i may not have enough power to run these things. do i need a new power supply or will this machine work fine?
thanks!

Agreed. For an 1800+, AMD wants a powersupply that can provide 30A on the 5-volt line and 180-watts combined on the 5V and 3.3V lines. No 250 watt supply gets close to that. Better quality 300 watts do (Antec, Sparkle, Enermax). For generic supplies, you often need to get a 350+ watter to hit those numbers.

I say try out 🙂 I have 250W AOpen PSU with 1Ghz T-bird, 24X CD-RW, 2-3HDD's and lots of other stuff: works perfectly. It has combined power of 150 watts. It's AMD certified up to 1.4Ghz (T-bird), since Palominos have lower power consumption, it should work...
