Is 2.56ghz good for x2 4200+?

Is that a decent overclock? System starts locking up much over that. Stock is 2.2ghz. Seems kinda weak :(

Thanks!

Stock voltage, whatever that is. I just stuck the chip in and haven't changed it. What is stock voltage, anyways? I want to up it but I can't really tell in the bios what the stock is since it just says auto and doesnt list it.

Had to back it down to 2.54ghz, its was giving me problems. Sounds like that's not too bad? Can I realisticly expect to get much more by upping the voltage?

Not windsor core, toledo core. I take it toledo is the better one (that's what they have on sell currently at newegg, where I got mine).

Thanks fellas.

I meant to say the 4200+ they have for sell for the 939 motherboards---definately a toledo.

Found the voltage--1.3/1.35. Gonna try raising it a bit.

Well, when I change the voltage to anything other than "default", even if its only to the stock 1.3v setting, the computer won't post and I have to reselt the CMOS using jumpers. Anyone know what could be causing this?

My chip does 2.5Ghz on stock voltage (1.35v). I'd wager you might be able to reach 2.7Ghz @1.45v, but at the very least 2.65Ghz since I'm able to reach that and my chip won't do 2.54Ghz on stock voltage.

What are you using to cool the chip?

myocardia---I checked out that link, and it looks like a good guide, but all it says about voltage and X2's is not to take it over 1.45volts.

What I can't figure out is why it doesn't work (computer fails to boot) when I switch from "default" to 1.3 volts, when 1.3 volts is default. Something is not right. I tried 1.35 vots too, no dice.

Nosoup---oh, I think I just have a retail box from my old XP on there. I'm sure I could get a much better cooler. But I'm not going to mess with it until I can figure out why the computer fails to boot when I switch from default volts to 1.3 volts (which is default).

You changed nothing except cpu vid and it won't boot? And when you set cpu vid to 1.45 it still won't post?

Sounds like you are doing something wrong in the BIOS.

I have an X2 3800 that does 2.4 GHz stock Vcore (with an opty HSF), at 100% CPU load 24/7.
