Is 16GB of storage enough for an iPhone 6s if the owner has a camera and mp3 player.

One of my non-tech savvy relatives bought an iPhone 6s primarily to facetime with other relatives and as the title notes he got a the 16GB model instead of the 64GB one.

Full disclosure the 16 GB base model irks me and in my opinion is a subtle way of "strongly encouraging" purchasers to get at least the 64 GB. Some may call me a phandroid.

Anyway since facetime is a deal breaker iOS is a must.

My question (knowing how convenient it is to have everything in one or two devices as opposed to more) is going with a 16GB base storage model feasible? Considering that my relative already has a compact ruggedized digital point and shoot camera with good photo quality and that accepts SD cards of various capacities and an mp3 player.

Or will he be better off getting a 64GB or even 128GB iPhone 6s and sell off the mp3 player?

Remember not having facetime is not an option so having the iphone is a must, it's just what storage capacity should the iPhone 6s be?

If I had a genie's lamp I'd just make them all use skype instead of facetime and convince my "tech service customer" to get an LG v10.

Depends. Obviously music and pictures take up a lot of space, but that isn't the only thing. Will this person every game on the phone? Some of those are huge.

I'd say no. Not enough space. 64 GB is really the minimum. A few videos and pics and a couple apps and he'll be banging against the space limit quickly. Your friend does have the option of using something like OneDrive or Google Photos to automatically drop pictures to the cloud so he can wipe the phone's memory without losing anything while on th ego.

[obligatory *I can't believe any company still sells a 16GB base model minus added storage option without being laughed at in 2016* comment here]

Thanks for the input guys.

I've convinced them to go with at least a 64gb model. They are well within the "regret period" and can trade up.

As for google and one drive I don't even want to get into that with them. Their data plan is the lowest they can get from their carrier; sub 1 gig per month. They can increase their data allowance per month almost 7-fold for $10 more.

I've just given them a brief lesson when and how to switch from wifi hotspots to cellular data in the phone settings and the risk of logging into an account at a open wi-fi hotspot (a.k.a. never do it).

This is their 1st smartphone and the difference between RAM and Flash storage is something they don't know.

I wonder who might pop in this thread to defend 16GB of storage in a 2016 flagship phone... hopefully no one.

It can be configured to only upload while on wifi, which is an ideal setting.
